Well the problem continues. I wasn't able to get to the farm much this year so I'm just now revisiting this issue. When the dealer look at the tractor he decided it was a loose filter. He tightened the filter and filled the tractor with oil, problem solved...or not. After he left I was putting the tractor away and it started making a knocking sound. Months later when I called the dealer I was told to let the engine run for a while as it was "probably just the engine warming up" (I thought it sounded like a rod knock). Eventually the dealer came back out and picked up the tractor. Today I called them and they said there was a tear in the oil filter seal which caused the oil loss and now a rod problem. They don't know the extent of the damage, but "it's serious".
This tractor has 11.3 hours on it and was purchased brand new. I've asked to have a new engine, but was told that it will more than likely be repaired (depending on the extent of the damage). They also suggested that I may have caused the damage by running the engine, even though I shut off the engine immediately after the engine light came on and called the dealer (who told me to run the engine and let it warm up). Sorry for the long story, but has anyone dealt with an engine issue like this in a tractor with so few hours? Is it unreasonable to expect a new engine on a tractor with 11 hours that cost as much as a car? How does Kubota usually handle these problems? The dealer said they don't want to "push" Kubota.
