oil help needed

I want to change the on my l1500 I can make out 20,30 and,10w30 on the cap.
I thought about putting in 15W40 diesel any thoughts? Is there a dip stick? How do you check the oil? The cap is stuck and I'm going to have to get channel locks a hold of it.

Everybody has their own opinions on oil but suffice it to say that for your area, any good quality 15w40 diesel oil will be fine. Don't forget to change the filter. Your tractor will hold approx. 3-4 qts., do not overfill. The dipstick will be down low on the left side of the engine.
