Kubota l2501 200 hr oil change filter leaks from the bottom. Hand tightented it and gave it a little more turn to snug it up. Have bought another filter to see if it was a bad filter. Nothing wrong with filters. Looks like there is nothing wrong with the housing as ive cleaned it and inspected.

no the gasket from the old filter is NOT still on.

I've always removed the ring, smeared it with new oil, mostly fill filter with oil, then install. I can't recall ever having a leaky filter i over 1/2 a century of 'wrench turning'.

If you have the old gasket just swap it to the new filter. Your new one may have a small knick or cut. Unless the old gasket is hard and cracked it should work. 200 hrs is nothing, the old gasket should be fine.

Over torquing can pinch the gasket. So can putting it on dry without lube. Or not cleaning the mating surface.

If you pinched the gasket it's FUBAR.

You are more likely to see an installation problem than a bad OEM K filter...unless someone dropped the filter or was using it as wheel chocks first.

have seen this--and have done it. Usually it's a piece of debris between the gasket and the base

I’m not sure how the filter housing is constructed. I once had the threaded pipe filter connection unscrew from the housing presumably when removing old filter. When I installed new filter, it would tighten down on the threaded portion, however wouldn’t tighten enough on the o ring mating surface for a good seal.
