Earlier today, when I was on my Z231KH-48, the rubber hose drain hose that connects to the oil pan came in contact with the exhaust and melted to the point of leaking oil.

Has this happened to anyone else? Would a black hose of similar size work as a replacement? Does anyone have a suggestion as to a type of hose that would be an upgrade?

Think any fuel grade hose will work if it is just a brain line & not under pressure. Maybe reroute away from exhaust. There is woven stainless steel sleeves out there. I would just route it away or wire tie away so it cant come in contact with exhaust.

Kawi engine? I believe it is a hose with crimped ends bit you could splice it with some hose clamps. There is no pressure other than the weight of the oil in that drain line. As long as the hose you use is petroleum compatible.
I'm fixing to get ready to change the oil on my Kawi motor. Once I figure out the thread and pitch on the oil pan, I will see if there is a Fumoto valve that will fit and get rid of the hose. It is close to the #2 cylinder valve cover. Then I'll just use the fluid extractor to drain the oil. Just like in the boat.

take the hose off and plug the hole

then buy a fluid evacuator to change the engine oil and you'll never touch a drain plug again.

As long as the sump has only one, common chamber so that an evacuator can work….that IS a better solution than a drain-hose which is susceptible to failure while underway…. (You’ll likely not know about the loss of oil until it’s too late with a hose.) Also, contrary to popular belief, an evacuator will pull more old oil out of the engine than using the drain-hose/plug.

Many Kubota 4WD machines have a “tunnel” thru the sump that an evacuator suction-tube cannot access all the oil…….but if your engine hasn’t got that issue….I agree with Lugbolt.
