I live in Australia and I got sent the wrong three orings for the gear case cover for the M4500DT. These are the ones that feed from the oil pump and back through the block to lubricate crank and cam. The gear case has circular channels cut out to fit the orings in.
The first ones sent were #04814-00150
They seemed too large, I could not work them in, they were just to big and went round in circles trying to work them in.
I got new ones replaced quoting the correct number 04810-00150 However they sent me 04817-00150
I called my supplier and he said the number 04810 was superseded with 04817 and that is the correct number.
These are OEM parts.
I managed to work them in circling them with my fingers but I was a bit worried they could pop out. They are maybe slightly smaller than the ones first sent but I had to work them in firmly circling around and around to get them to seat.
If the gear case goes on and they don’t come of they will seal okay.
Maybe this is how they are supposed to fit, I don’t know does anyone?
( I have a plate over them now with a bit of weight on to bed them in so to speak).
They look like they will stay but I must be careful putting the gear case back on.

I looked on messics and the 04810 has hundreds of kubotas that fit including the M4500DT
However the 04817 on messics has 600 models they fit but no mention of M4500DT only M4900DT.

Does anyone know if I can find the superseded reference numbers for Kubota?
Perhaps the 04810-00150 is the same size as the 04817-00150 and they are supposed to be pushed in firmly in a circluar motion rather than fitting neat in to the circular groove. Any advice please?

Interesting problem…
from Kubota USA parts list 04810-00150 is the correct part
Messicks shows that all three of the part numbers in your post are active part numbers and don’t show any supersedure numbers at all. The costs are all over the map from about US$1.00 to US$5.50.

I would try a different dealer and ask them to check on the 04810-00150 part and see what they say. You can also call Messicks but that might be expensive?

Stretching o rings will cause the cross section area to reduce and I would worry about leaks.
You may be able to get the correct size oring from the auto parts store if you have the old one yo measure or take some measurements of the groove they fit in.

One suggestion that may prove useful in the future: There are several quality “O-ring assortment kits” which I keep in my workshop. Nitrile (Buna), Neoprene, Ethylene Propylene (EPDM Rubber), Silicone, Fluorocarbon (Viton), and PTFE (Teflon) … the kits are inexpensive and have saved me while working late at night on various projects.
Store them properly and they’ll have a long shelf-life also.

Thanks Russell I have that parts manual. My friend JohnDB helps me out a lot and he found this link from a USA mower shop that mentions the superseded number
https://www.m-and-d.com/KUB-04810-00150.html
My thoughts are the oring is compressed inward toward the outer edge of the groove it sits in, so it will be slightly thicker as opposed to stretching an oring over the inside of the groove which would make it thinner. When the case is bolted up the pressure will compress it even more and seat it on the inside of the groove also. It has nowhere to go unless it can flex upon the inside groove slightly. JohnDB mentioned this to me, however it is seated against the outside of the bore firmly, so there will be no movement there against the pressure on the bore. Nevertheless I will get this thoroughly checked out with different opinions from some bearing services over here. There must be billions of orings made and if something like this is superseded then it could be Kubota themselves who may have run short of stock and somewhere along the line it has been superseded from their suppliers. I imagine Kubota dont make orings. Messicks is renown from what knowledge I have and maybe they have thousands of them and no need to look up if there is a superseded part. Messicks have both types in stock and its hard to tell on the measurements but they both look the same at 13/16ths OD and about 3/32" thickness. If one is slightly different I can see it could compress a little more as it takes up the space on the inside of the bore. They do seem protruded enough to seat properly. I will email Messicks also to see what records they have on this. I do have a basic oring kit but they would not be quality, so I would not use them GeoHorn. That was one of my concerns to use the right material because of engine heat and contact with oil. You have listed so many types of material that yours are made from I wouldnt know what to use? Thats why I ordered an OEM part.

Added photo to try and explain where the to show the gap on th inner seat. The oring sits firm in the outer ring and there is enough relief when compressed against the block face to seat on to the inner ring when its bolted up.
It is a square cut seat and I can only think it is designed to do this unless the oring was much thicker. Overlook the dirty gear case, I was only seeing if the orings will fit before final cleaning

Simple solution: NItrile for Oil/grease. It’s not as critcal as you might think.

Thanks for your post. I am convinced these are the correct size O-rings

Okay on the fit on the OD, I assumed you were stretching them over the ID.

I would not have a problem using those. You might want to see if putting thick grease in the groove helps with holding the oring in place during assembly.

I never trust those blind assemblies like that! They are just a leap of faith to assemble.

Good luck

Thanks Russell after they have been seated in for a while they seem to be firm so I wont need to put anything on them. The recess they are in are a right angle cut circle. I panicked at first because they didnt seem to want to fit in. Because its square cut they wont want to pop out. Now I would be able to turn the gear case upside down and they would stay in. I will just be very careful putting the case back on the block that I dont jar it and it slides on smoothly. Thanks for your advice
