I have a L4400HST which I purchased used about 4 months ago (500 hours, all service done) and it has run like a champ. I was out of town for about 3 weeks over Christmas and the tractor just sat.

When I returned home I cranked it up, no issue. Pushed the pedal and it bogged down. Pushed pedal in reverse...bogged down. Never cut off but wouldn't move and close to clonking off. FEL and 3 point functioned fine.

Let it run idle at 1500 RPMs for about 3 minutes everything back to normal. Hooked up bush hog and cut about 5 acres no problems.

It sounds exactly like the parking brake was on? Maybe when you came back over to it you managed to push the brake pedal in enough to disengage the parking brake? Either that or the brakes were frozen in replace and didn't release properly on your first attempt?

I did check the brakes (several times) and they were not on. That was the first thing I thought of, but when I park for a while I usually just put the bucket into the ground upside down to keep water from collecting.

But you are correct, it acted just as if the brakes were engaged.

I believe the manual gives suggested times to run the tractor before use to allow hydraulic fluid to warm. This is especially important with the HST transmission.
