Hi all. I just bought a 2001 BX1800. It is in nice shape with a RCK54 22BX mmm, and 377 hrs on it. There is no tach on this model and am wondering how to get the right engine RPM to have the correct RPM on the PTO?

I put a Tiny Tach on my BX2230, and it works great. Like shelkol said, it just uses a clamp on pickup on a fuel injector line and a ground on the engine, plus 12 volts to power it. I 3D printed a box to mount it on the dash, rather than cut a hole in the dash.

That looks good on there. I just ordered my Tiny Tach, not sure how I'll be able to mount it though. The dash panel doesn't have a lot of room on it.

Don't do what I did. I wired it to 12 volts and found my battery dead the next time I went to use it, lol. wire the 12 volts to a circuit after the ignition switch :)

For the MMM on my bx2200 I just run at full RPM, throttle wide open...

If I were using the rear PTO, and was worried about it, I would probably run a little under max RPM.

Question for you guys that put tachs on your BXs. How did you figure what engine speed equates to 540 PTO RPM?

If you are one of us mere mortals who don't have a 3D printer, you can buy a project box and make a cut out for the meter.

I'm on a forum for an older diesel military truck that didn't come with a tach, and lots of the guys have installed Tiny Tachs, and speak very highly of them.

While I do not dispute the usefulness of a tach, looking at the BX1800 & 2200 spec's I see why Kubota did not feel the need to include one.

The engine is governed to 3,200 rpm.

The rear pto 540 rpm is obtained at an engine speed of 3,068.

In other words, run it at full throttle. That is what is is designed for. The same engine would be run at 3,600 rpm in generator operation so do not think you are stressing the engine.

re: 'correct' PTO speed .
There really isn't one, unless running an 'old skool' generator. While an implement ,like a mower' is designed for say 540 RPM actual conditions(grass height, wet/dry, density, etc) dictate what speed 'works'.
I hogged acres at a lower PTO speed, grass cut fine, discharged well with sharp blades.
