No power in high range.

My in laws have a 2010 MX5100 with a little over 100 hours. My brother in law was using it to pull up fence posts with the front end loader when he noticed he had very little power in high range. I went over to look at it, it takes off in all 4 gears in low and high, but it just crawls in high range. Can anyone she'd some light on this for me please?

When was the hydraulic system serviced?
Old fluid and filters will inhibit the HST system from working properly!

Also could be the clutch is worn or out of adjustment.

Get the WSM for the tractor as it will give you troubleshooting info and repair info in great detail.

I don't know that it's ever been serviced. I'll check it out. And yes the parking brake is off. First thing I checked lol. Thank y'all very much

Do you have any freeplay in the clutch pedal? Meaning, when the clutch is not pressed, is there a bit of play before the clutch pedal hits a hard spot? If someone is riding the clutch and it is out of freeplay, it will cause it to slip. There's a rod and clevis under the hood that goes to the clutch arm that can be adjusted, hopefully it didn't go too far and you need a clutch.

So it's a gear tractor, right? Does it seem like the engine speeds up but it's slipping?
Good question there is

Model ..........Transmission
MX5100F: .....2WD gear
MX5100DT: ...4WD gear
MX5100HST:..4WD hydro.

Since he didn't say HST..... guess its gear?

He DID mention all 4 gears plus high & low - so that's 8 speeds and definitely gear. HSTs have 3 gear ranges plus a variable speed reversible hydraulic coupling. ;)

Changed hydraulic fluid and filter. Tractor is moving a little better until you put it in a bind. I mean trying to take off with the wheels tuned seems to be a chore. It's a 4wd with 4 in high and 4 in low and by no power I mean high rpms and no speed. Not sure at all where to go next with it.

I don't know hardly anything about clutches, but I don't think it has any free play in it. Could be wrong, it's happened before

From what you just explained, try adjusting the linkage on the clutch but I'm 95% sure it's a fried clutch.
You sir are looking at splitting a tractor and replacing a clutch. ;)

To adjust: loosen the lock nut (90) on the lower clevis (80) remove the pin (100) turn the clevis down and lengthen the rod.

Um, fried at 100 hours? That would be a misadjusted clutch from the dealer or someone heck bent on riding it which is hyper rare in tractors. You normally use it to get it into gear and then you are off of it until you need to stop and change gears.

On my L3200, I'm rarely on the clutch at all, usually just to stop or unless I'm running the loader.

So I'd be shocked if it was having issues at 100 hours. It's outside of its warranty window, being a 2010 unless it was purchased late in 2011. So, I sure hope it's not a clutch at 100 hours. That's a problem.

Between that, and the fact that I think they're undersized. They're only about a 9" disc, its not much bigger than the one I pulled from my Farmall A, and that's not an exaggeration

If a guy is in high range, and doesn't know how to ease into a pile with the loader, he's going to sit there and ride the clutch. There's some people that don't know any better

I'd have to ask why the heck you are in high range while doing loader operations! You wouldn't have any power to work the pile or dig with. I consider 3rd to be about max gear for loader work and only loose stuff for that gear.

Now coming out of the pile with a loaded bucket and needing to do portage for a distance, I might hit 5th or 6th but that would be for a pretty distant drop spot. I'd actually try to use a dump trailer and truck at that point and keep the wear off the tractor.

I think I've had my L3200 in high range maybe 3 times since I've owned it and twice was for roading it to the neighbors a whopping 1000 ft away just to see road characteristics.
