no need for ballast?

You could get a hydraulic pressure gauge to make sure your bypass is set to the correct pressure. If it is low it will reduce the weight you can lift.

I have a BX2200, so a little smaller that yours. I need ballast when spreading topsoil and gravel. I currently use my box blade for ballast and it seems to fit the bill.
thank you for you reply - how do i measure hydraulic pressure?

Earlier it was mentioned that your FEL is rated 500 to 750 lbs. Get 2 50 gallon barrels. Put them on the bucket and fill with water to the rated weight -- 8.35 lbs per gallon. Will it lift the barrel?

getting a gauge is a great first step for sure. Would be first thing I would do or add weight to bucket and see when it stalls out.
I am a huge fan of correct ballast for loader work.
Your filled tires probably already have about 350 pounds of weight which is a good first step directly over rear axle. IMHO maybe not enough but better than nothing for sure!
My book learning in grade school used to recomend something like 1/3 - 1/2 your max. loader lift on a 3pt impliment was recommended depending of course on terrain, etc...

Forgetting for just a moment, your personal dissapointment about not being able to lift your rear wheels off the ground, I have not seen it stated in ~2 pages of comments anywhere just how much your FEL can lift, so I'll just be blunt.

HOW MUCH ARE YOU ABLE TO LIFT?

Surely, you have some vague idea?

20 concrete bricks, 10 x 40lb bags of dry cement 2 x 50gal barrels of water, extremely full bucket load of crushed rock......something !

As VE9 asks ,how much CAN you lift NOW ???
I'd hate to read 3 pages from now, you've had to buy a new loader control valve because you forgot something or rebuilt your perfectly working one, wrong and destroyed it.

While rebuilding valves is easy, for those who do it '24/7' it can be EASY for a rookie to do a simple 'oopsy' and cost a big wad of cash.

If you do decide to 'open it up'...understand that the entire area and you , has to be CLEAN ! Far cleaner than an operating room, at a level where you could rebuild computer harddrives. Well, not quite but really, really clean. You also need to be 100% sure that everything goes back the way it was, every shim, washer, springs, whatever came out HAS to go back in properly.
googled the part YW23995100 and only got 5 hits ! NO prices, maybe it's not available as a part ?

thanks for your reply. ive just read so much about having 'ballast boxes' etc filled with 500-1000 pounds when using FEL -- i think perhaps my little tractor is not lifting to its capacity (or its capacity is very lacking)
I run only 240 ballast and have never had the Wheels come off the ground with a heavy full bucket of snow. Wonder how much that snow weighs about?
