Newbie Needs Help - King Kutter 48" Too Small?

New L3301 owner (< 60 hours) and neighbor offered the use of a King Kutter 48" rotary cutter used on a John Deere 4200. The PTO shaft is too short (by maybe 4 inches). Should I purchase a new PTO shaft to run the 48" cutter or is the King Kutter too small to pull behind the L3301?

What's the dimension on your rear tractor tires, outside to outside? 48" cut won't cover it. Unless you just like mowing, it's too small...plus you have to buy a PTO shaft to make it work.

I wouldn't BORROW a mower from a neighbor. Just an easy way to cause grief, especially after you modify it and use it on a bigger tractor then the owner has. All problems will be blamed on you! You get to fix the neighbors equipment.

My comments are strictly limited to the pto shaft.

If the one with the cutter is adequate for the horsepower of your pto, rather than buying a complete pto assembly, the shaft pieces can be removed and replaced with longer ones. The are usually held in place at each end with a spring pin through the castings making up the ends of the complete shaft

Did the owner say the PTO shaft had been cut to fit his JD? KK48" I believe has a 40hp gearbox on it. So Id say if you want to use it buy a new PTO shaft and mow on
