I was tired of trying to handle round bales with a compact 28hp 2003 JD 4210 so I sold it a two weeks ago and was going to buy a 40hp or 50hp Mahindra HST. I drove a few and researched them quite a bit. They appear to be solid machines, killer warranty and the videos show them out performing Orange, Green and Blue. But resale.. lower for sure. Then I find out the 2014/15 model Mahindra had to go to Tier 4 engines and pricing jumped $4K from 3 months previous prices and all Tier 3's were gone according to local dealer. Another issue was the 40-50 miles to the closest Mahindra dealer and my Kubota guy is like 4 miles away.
SO... I went to Kubota and drove the MX5100 because of the price, looked like a stripped model for a big price, I hated the pedals, steering and bucket lever locations. I am 6'1" 250# and just didn't like it or the ergonomics. Then I drove the Grand L6060, pretty sure I heard angles singing... then I heard the price (heart sunk) I left telling my wife maybe I could find a low hour Grand HST.
Many, many hours on the internet looking at night, researching, reading reviews on sizes, creeping on here a few times and finally located a 2010 Grand L5740 HST ROPS almost 600 miles away with 115 hours on it but no loader which is a must have. It has R1's too, thought I wanted R4's although reading on here says maybe not so jury still out.
I went back and talked with local dealer, he tells me the price I found the 5740 for is close to wholesale and to buy it. I secured prices from him for LA854 FEL a Landpride RCF2072 and a Balespike Pallet Fork combo and dual rear valves then off to see my banker. Last Friday night and Saturday I spent 19hrs on the road to bring it home.
Today I dropped it at Kubota to get the new LA854 FEL added, widening rear tire stance, fluid fill rear tires, rear valves, etc. Should be home in two days and I will update with my impressions.
