I have an l3800hst and doing 50 hour service. Changed engine oil and filter and book said 7.5 qts after putting in 7qts oil shows high on dipstick should I drain some out? Also was going to do hydro and trans fluid change but there was a 2nd filter which the book did not list which I think is the hst filter so waiting to get other filter. Is there an inner and outer air filter on this model and if so where is the inner filter at. I did run engine and oil level on dipstick still read high after rechecking.
Thank you

Is this before or after starting. If before, the filter is still empty, thus showing a higher reading on the dip stick. Plus all the other areas it will be circulated to. If after, I'd still run for a little while(run it around the yard a couple of times) and recheck. Chances are that you will be showing the correct level.

Oftentimes our tractors don't take the amount indicated in the manual, so I just pour close to the amount then go by the dipstick reading. If you are showing too high, I would drain some out personally.

The L30 and L40 as well as our M Series have inner and outer air filters. They also have dual transmission/hydraulic filters.

I am attaching a link to Messick's for service on the L40 to see if there are any commonalities or links to the L3x00 Series.

Assuming the L3800 and L3700 share common parts, there are three filters on the hydraulic system, two cartridges and one magnetic:

HH3AO-8262-3 - Cart.
T0070-3772-0 - Magnetic ring placed with above filter (reusable)
HHK70-1407-0 - Cart.

The owner's manual is sketchy and says to change filter with hydraulic oil.

I changed my fluid and filters at 50 hours as well instead of the recommended 450 hours.

The second (optional) air filter fits inside the large outer filter. Stock mine only had the outer but I ordered an inner filter from a dealer.

I'd also point out an issue with the fuel filter.

The new filter does not come with O-rings, either the small inner or large outer ring. Don't chuck the old filter, o-rings and all in the trash before discovering this and find yourself digging around to locate them in the trash.

How do I know this......?
