I have a new Z422 with about 20 hours on it. On a cold start with choke pulled on I crank and as it starts to catch and I immediately release choke and when it starts to run its blowing blue looking smoke. The less choke I use the smaller the smoke cloud is. When its warm, no smoke at all on start

It hasn't always done this. Just started last 2 mows.

Should I be concerned or is it just fuel burning off. Hate to think the engine is having issues.

Thanks for any comments.

every one of them I've been on does that. Especially if it sits for a week or two between uses. The cloud they give off when pulling a new mower off of the crate was slightly embarassing--so much so that I made sure to do a lot of checks on the mowers, before starting the engine-if the customer was watching. IOW, waste a little time until they walk off or go back to the showroom.

Does it use any oil? If not, don't worry about it. If the oil level is over the full line, they'll puke a little and smoke. Usually on startup. Make sure to check it before every use-along with the air filter.

Interesting. I have 7 hours on mine and have not noticed this?? I need to do my first oil change at 8 hours so we will see if it happens after that.

I’ll be mowing with my Z422 sometime this week…it’s been sitting quite a while now so if I see this I’ll report back (don’t recall seeing blue smoke before on startups.) With the choke on full I would expect a “puff” of blue because of the rich mixture at full choke?
