New to me M7060HD (1700) hrs "Stuck in 4WD"

I bought a used M7060 and being unfamiliar with a Kubota I did not test taking in and out of 4wd. The tractor is in 4wd. The push pull switch was down and frozen but I freed this and can manipulate it up and down, but the tractor stays in 4wd. The light is lit on the dash. If I push down excessively the light will go out but come back on. Underneath, I can manipulate the push pull linkage up and down, but the linkage going forward does not move. Referring to diagram, Lever 160 goes up and down (rotates) but 140 does not rotate nor move rod 080.


In fact I cant figure out how it could move. On the forward end of the linkage, the head of bolt 040 that's holds stopper 030 goes thru a hole in lever 060. This appears not to allow 060 to move.

I assume 060 should rotate shaft 010 moving the collar that engages the 4wd back and forth.

I'm sure I'm being dense, but would appreciate some help.

Trying to formulate what is or isn't supposed to happen with the linkage off of schematic is really hard even for the seasoned mechanics.
The WSM is a much better choice to figure it out.

Are you able to get the shaft 10 to rotate at all by direct manual manipulation of 60 or 80?

I think you should try to get the workshop manual as suggested, take some pictures of the tractor linkage as it is assembled and then probably take some of that linkage apart to see what moves and doesn’t move easily.

I would assume that there was some binding and now a pin is sheared (even though I don’t see all the pins in the diagram posted). I think pin 70 might be the best place to start looking for something missing.

Thanks, I'll take some pics later today. The WSM appears geared toward the cab models with electric 4wd shift. I will go thru it again today to see if I missed a chapter.
Shaft 010 doesn't rotate and I can't to see how it could.

I think the shaft is supposed to rotate in that retainer (030), it looks like the retainer is just to push on the step in the shaft so it can't come out. It's possibly just seized to the retainer because they never moved the linkage? I'd hose it down with some oil and hit it with a tapometer. Maybe a gentle warming with some of Hank Hill's favorite would help too.

Pictures below of lever 060 with head of 040 looking as if it blocks movement of lever. I may just order a new 040 bolt to see if its same. I'm beginning to think it was locked in 4wd on purpose? Or maybe I have a gross conceptual error (GCE)...

I am almost positive that #10 shaft has to rotate at least a little, not 360 degrees. That “bolt” head should limit the amount of movement so the internal lever doesn’t move the circular part (from some other figure) too far.

I would suggest that you clean up that area and move the lever to see if the shaft can move at all.

Before that I think I would disconnect the rod #80 from #60 (and keep up with the washer and keeper). Then support the rod #80 in its original plane of movement (which I believe to be nearly horizontal). Just set it on top of a stack of boards or something. Then move rod #200 all the way up and mark where the end of rod #80 is, then push rod #200 all the way down. Mark where the end of rod #80 is. That should show you the extreme limits of what movement you might see on the lever #60 movement. It might be exaggerated since nothing is limiting the movement but you might see that the lever #60 only moves about a 1/4 inch. But depending on how long the internal lever is that could move an inch or more.

Then move lever #60 to the extreme limit of movement allowed by the head of the bolt and see if you feel like it went into or out of front wheel drive.

The pin between the lever #60 and shaft #10 seems to be there only to make shaft #10 turn is why I am “almost positive”. But I have made bad guesses in the past!

I ordered a new 040 bolt just so I could look and compare.
For now I will start the greasing , oil and filter change and the fuel filter / separator change. I'll wait on the hydraulic oil and filter change till I figure out this 4wd dilemma.

I wish there was more room between this linkage and the fuel tank.
