Hey there all,
New to the forum and to kubota. Just picked up a rarely used m6040 with hydraulic shuttle. Haven't even had much time to play, pesky jobs. Just noticed none of the indicators in the center of the dash are working. (4wd, what looks like a park brake). I will look in the manual tomorrow and might try the local dealer (get to know him anyway) but I was wondering if anyone had seen this before or had an idea of anything silent to check before I get the multimeter out.
Thanks,
Dan

Welcome to the forum board!

As far as your problem goes, I'm not sure where to start other than fuses and possibly electrical connectors that might be loose.

All the fuses have been cleaned and checked with a meter for continuity both with and without a load. I don't see any loose connectors and tried to move everything to get a sign of life. Everything else works fine on the dash. The tractor was stored inside since new.

Sorry I can't help you anymore than that. I'm no wiring person by any means. I know someone else will chime in here with a little more experience than me.

If it involves more than a positive and a ground wire, I'm out! ;)

Congrats on your new toy!!!!

You might check to see if it has a fusible link down near the starter. I don't know your particular unit, but many Kubota models have a fusible link on the wire that supplies power to the instrument cluster and charging circuit. It's there to protect in case someone hooks a battery up backwards.

You need to check it with a voltmeter for continuity. Sometimes when they go they look burned, other times they look perfectly fine but are open from a continuity perspective.

You might consider ordering a shop manual for it as they contain wiring diagrams (as well as tons of other useful info).

Good luck!

Steve

I can only relate my experience on the issue.

I purchased a used L48 TLB that a guy had used for his septic tank business. When I went to pick it up he said that for some reason the dash lights were out. OK, figured it was fine for the price being paid. Note: the tractor was perfectly clean.

The fuse to the panel was blown and putting in another fuse worked until the tractor was used.

Couldn't find the issue until the wiring diagram was checked. Turned out the guy had pressure washed the whole tractor and engine. The pressure washing displaced a wire that rubbed up against the exhaust manifold, burned through the insulation, and grounded out. The vibrating engine would cause it to ground again blowing the fuse.

Complicating the matter was that the wire was in a spot that couldn't be seen by removing the cowling. Only tracing the wire and feeling where it was burned through gave the answer.

Oh well, long story but the suggestion of finding a wiring diagram and tracing the wires to the panel is a good start.

After that you may have to pull the panel and see if all of the connectors are secure. Disconnect and reconnect all of them. Might even spray some WD40 on the connection points.

Thanks for the info and attempts guys. Apparently the 2007 m6040 tractors do not use those lights (park brake or 4wd indicators). Later models did but this year does not. I have been unable to determine with my dealer whether I can purchase an updated harness to solve the issue or not. They are trying to get me some help. I guess I will have to wire in my own alert. Makes me miss the 1987 red tractor which had not only an indicator but two flashing warning lights. I am disappointed with kubota for not having these. My dealer has been great though and hopefully the tractor works out to.
P S I switched dash with a kubota from work and the lights don't work. Put the dash back in the 09 and it does.
Thanks again for the help.
