New tiller too big?

I've been looking for a tiller for my B2620 for a while now but have not been able to find anything under $1000 so when I saw one for $600 I jumped on it.
The good; Sovema Italian made tiller in great condition, slip clutch is working and has a complete set of spare blades. The bad; it's a pig. 60" at just over 800lbs. Wanted smaller but...

I think the max for the 2620 is 50" and 675ish lbs. I don't have to worry about rocks or anything like that, I did 1800' of trench a few years back without hitting a single rock.

I'm pretty new to tractors so my question is this; Can I go slow and lower it down after a couple of passes or should I try and trade it in on a smaller one?
Is the weight my biggest concern?

its big for you but probably doable with multi passes.
even if you find a smaller one you won't lose anything on the one you got the great deal on.

I ran a 48" King Kutter behind my B7100. It did fine. I don't think that you will have problems powering a 5', but the poundage may force you to weight the front of the tractor, if you don't have a loader.
The 5 hp per foot of implement is a conservative estimate. My B7100 never ran out of power for the tiller, and I didn't make multiple passes to make it work. Our ground is semi-rocky, plus I tilled up a few new gardens, that hadn't been broken with a plow. 14 hp ran a tiller that should have needed 20.

You may not be able to lift it. You should be able to run it, but lift capacity may be a problem.

I had someone try to sell me a 72", if the price would have been better, I figured I could remove tines off one side until it was small enough to handle

I've been looking for a tiller as well but they're all $2000+. I'd jump on that for $600 without hesitation and find a way to make it work. If it bogs remove hte outer spline set from each side and just till a little less.

TractorData says your 2620 should lift "(Rear lift (at 24"/610mm): 1,058 lbs)" so you should be ok. But as was said, you will have to weight the front end to keep any hope of steering.

Be aware it's probably a cat2 implement, while you have a cat1 hitch. I put a 3pt cat2 blade on the back of my b8200, and it lifted just fine, exactly 1" off the ground. I also have cat2 arms but my tractor is cat1. So that may be something to take into consideration.

I run a 60" on my 2650 with no problems. If the ground is to wet for tilling, it will bog a little. So I slow down.

Low range, 4wd locked in, it just eats. I just did both my neighbors gardens this evening. Tilled in some yard for them as well as they both wanted to expand. No issues.

I'm toying with reversing the tines.....

Fatjay, you sure you have cat. 2 on your B8200? Here's how most rear hitches are set up. I don't think a 19 HP tractor has a cat. 2 linkage, mine sure doesn't.

Each category of three-point hitch is designed for a specific range of tractor horsepower, according to the website Antique Tractors. Category 0, or category 1 if a 1-to-4 numbering system is used, is used on tractors of less than 20 horsepower. Category 1 is standard on tractors of 20-to-45 horsepower. Category 2 is used on tractors up to about 90 horsepower, and category 3 is generally used on tractors over 90 horsepower. Tractors with a horsepower on the border between categories can have either hitch depending on the manufacturer's design.

I used the linkage off my 35hp tractor, because the pins for cat2 won't fit in cat1 holes. I wanted to use my blade behind my tractor in the snow with the blower on the front.

I doubt it's Cat 2 but if it is just buy bushings.

Results of the 60" tiller on my 2650. This is a garden that we broke last year. This is the second year tilling this ground. It was lawn that I tilled in green.
