I'm a new old Kubota owner having recently purchased a B7001. I've had this for a couple of weeks and in the last few days noticed a leak which appears to be located either in the area of the rear axel or the linkage. After noticing this I have also started to hear a squeaking sound, only when moving forwards, emanating from the left side rear wheel. I'm not sure if these are same issue. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Not having a Workshop Manual, I'm making educated guesses at the maintenance at the moment. Having said that I believe the oil level for the rear drive / linkage is located just to the front of the seat? Having checked this it did not appear to be low? I took a further look under the rear axle and I noticed 3 holes on the bottom plate with no plugs or screws in not sure if that's important.

Not familiar with your model, but on mine the 3 holes you describe sound like the trailer hitch mounting holes. Not sure about the leak, pics would help, but mine (B7100) used the have a squeak from the rear wheel hubs (do a search), and it occasionally produces a squeak from the brakes. Try applying the brakes when it squeaks & see if it changes.

Thanks for the feedback. I've been away for a while and at last managed to get out on the tractor last weekend. Re-applying the brakes and ensuring they were not on resulted in the squeak being eradicated... need to make sure they a completely off in future.

As for the leak this is obviously still present, though as long as I keep the oil topped up I'm not as concerned knowing the squeak is not related. I've added a picture to show what I think is the source of the oil.

Can't tell for sure, but i'd guess the PTO shaft seal...... relatively easy to change. (on mine, anyway)

I believe Lil foot is steering you right. wipe and or degrease and wipe down the area and watch for the fluid exit point. It should be an easy fix for you.

Oh glad your here!

Shaft seal for a B7100 is the same, my '77 B7001 looks just like yours and was leaking when I bought it. Clean out / off area well and pry out old seal (I used a seal puller w/hook), and just lubricate the new one on the metal edges and gently tap it in with a LARGE deep socket or thick walled pipe (like I did).
I was worried that I might have an internal wear issue that was causing the shaft to wobble and eat the seal, but it has held up well for over a year and 1/2 now.

I'd rather have the squeak than the leak. Think of leaks like bleeding, they will kill you eventually.
