Hello,
New from Central Va - just starting a small (33ac) farm, no big plans - just enjoy it and add a little here and there as we learn. Always ready to listen and learn!
L3200!

Cheers~

Welcome to the OTT forum. I see that you got a great tractor. How many hours do you have on it?

A couple weeks ago I drove all the way up I81 to Harrisburg, PA. We spent the night in Winchester, VA before getting to Harrisburg the next morning. Then we drove down to Alexandra, VA to spend the next night. We went there to see my oldest daughter get her Masters Degree in Nursing in National Harbor, MD at the Gaylord Resort. Off course we had to drive all the way back down I81 to get back home.
It is a beautiful drive through the valley but they really need to add a lane or two to I81.

We are in Orange County. We used to live much closer to DC, finally could not take it anymore and moved to Orange County where my bride grew up, and where her parents still live.

The tractor - I bought it used with 65 hours, now have 90 on it, all in the last three months. So far, it is a good fit for the size of our place and what I have asked it to do.

I81? My hometown and family are in the SW part of the state, so I81 used to be a main travel route for us. I say used to - we rarely use it anymore. Frankly, it's a darn dangerous road. I just add a little time and travel 11, 29, 460. Much more relaxing.

I agree with you on I81 especially in some spots. I will have to give your other route a try next time.

I really like to see new things and take things a little easier now.

Welcome to the forum. I'm in NOVA full time, with a family farm near the NC border in Patrick County.
I usually take 29 and set the cruise control just at speed limit. Anything over draws draws blue lights. Every time I take 81 it rains, and then it's a roll of the dice what you will find over the top of the next hill. All the while running 75 MPH plus just to keep the 18 wheelers off your tail. I've seen too many major wet road accidents on 81.

Orange County is great I have ridden down to Waugh's HD shop a few times. If your land is hilly, bump your rear tires out to the widest option. It will make a big improvement in stability. Also check to be sure the tires are filled with fluid. You will have better traction. Enjoy!

Welcome to the forum, Widefat. If you get half of the enjoyment and education from this forum that I do, I think you'll still be rewarded. Chuck
