One more example. I just bought a lawn tractor from my family member. ( I have no plans and no desire to put a mid mount mower on my LX2610). It's 5 years old and well maintained. It was easily worth $750 to $1,000. My relative said give me $250 and it's yours. I gave him $400 and he said "No", and handed me back $100.
That's "family price" in action.
If it craps out in a week, there is no harm no foul.

I'd rather give things away or almost give them away than sell/buy to a friend or family member, but everyone has to decide on their own if selling to/buying from a friend or family member makes sense.
