Hello All,

Got the new L3901 HST delivered today. I know, I'm a brave soul for getting the new Tier 4 emissions tractor (like to think I'm polluting the air less). I like the tractor, has more than enough power for what I will be using it for. As I've always heard; better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

Took advantage of the 0% financing, also went with the Kubota KTAC insurance, just in case I break it.

Picked up the Landpride Box Blade, Allied 2-stage Snow Blower, and 3pt trailer mover. Will be picking up a Post hole digger and ssqa pallet forks/hay spear soon.

Any suggestions on the two? The posthole digger will be used for maybe 6-8 holes a year, very light use and the pallet forks, I'm sure will be used quite often. looking at following, which seem relatively inexpensive;

Posthole - http://www.fleetfarm.com/detail/speeco-model-65-post-hole-digger/0000000080024 - with the 12" auger.

Pallet - http://www.palletforks.com/42-skid-steer-pallet-fork-attachment.html - with Hay Spear for large hay bales - normally we only use the small bales for our horses, but if lack of availability or price force us to get the large square or round, I will need to move them.

Thanks, Tony

Tony,
You'll need to look at the lift capacity of the loader, you're going to be pushing it trying to deal with a large round or square bales, most that want to deal with those bump up to the M series.
I also did see a ballast box on your list, otherwise you'll end up really unstable using the loader and put a huge strain on front end components, or worse yet end up on your nose.
Also get the rear tires loaded with ballast, that will also help with stability!

Ya I would say that the L3901 is pretty much the same as the L3800 lift wise . And a round bale will be pushing it on the front . I am going to try mine with one when ever its handy . But I don't plan on using it on hay everyday . But will be nice if I did need it to once in a while if needed . But I see no reason they can't do hay every day on the 3 point .

Yes, I was momentarily concerned about lifting round bales, as salesman will say it does it all.

Found other users with L3800 doing it without issue: http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/showthread.php?t=219890&page=2&p=2523737#post2523737

The tractor is solid, can't wait to get some work done this summer. On 10 acres with 4 horses, been doing all that could with a ATV, and renting skid steers for the last 4 years. Now I have a machine that will do most everything. Would like to have a backhoe, but those are half the cost of a tractor.

A lot of the guys here have built their own ballast boxes to get a good counter weight for the FEL. I use about 600 lbs of concrete, plus filled tires and 140 lbs/tire wheel weights. If I was going to haul around anything like those bales, I'd want 1000 lbs or more on the 3PH! None of your implements give you that sort of weight.
If you have R4 tires you may need wheel spacers to put chains on for that snow. We did with the 3200/3800 tractors. If you look for Kubota wheel spacers on EBAY you can get nice ones, 2-1/2" to whatever you want. They also help a lot with stability on the side of a hill, or with the loader.
Anyway, welcome to the site! We love pictures! The 3901 is new, so we want lots of them! I think you made a good choice in size; just be careful with heavy way out in front. Keep the ROPS up, use your seat belt, take your time, and try to get small bales... You are in for a lot of fun! Tractor time becomes a high priority.

The above is good stuff & in bold is extremely important!

If only doing 6-7 post holes a yr. I'd buy some post hole diggers for $20

Or find a place near you that will rent them out. It's hit or miss.

Otherwise, find one on craigslist for $500. PHD are very simple tools and as long as oil has been kept in the gearbox it will most likely work. Only thing to lookout for is bent augers.

Just had the same setup delivered yesterday, an L3901HST with 525 FEL. Upon first start, I've got an engine warning light on the right side of the instrument panel.

Also, would love some advice here...I'm throttling down as low as I can before engaging the PTO (without killing the engine), but I still get a "pop" when I engage it. Is this normal?

Finally, the hours meter is alternating between showing the hours, and then it shows "P0336." Anyone else seen this? I've asked the dealer about the engine light and the P0336, but not about the PTO because I wondered if that was normal.

Appreciate any advice on these items!
