I just recently purchased a 2012 L3800 with a quick hitch CAT 1 (QH10). I am looking for inexpensive used rotary cutter/mower.

My question: Can I purchase any CAT 1 rotary cutter/mower and it will work w/ the QH10? Or do I have to get something very specific?

The Kubota salesman mentioned something about "make sure it's Land Pride compatible." How would a rookie owner know if a CAT 1 rotary cutter/mower sold on lsn.com (or other sale site) would work?

I believe Kubota also owns Land Pride. I use a five foot King Kutter behind my L2501 and it works great. Get a cutter with a gearbox appropriate to the horsepower of your tractor (mine is rated at forty and the tractor only puts out twenty five) and cut or have cut the driveshaft to the appropriate length. The driveshaft should have at least six inches of overlap between the two sections when connected to the tractor. It should also be able to be pulled two inches back from the drive when the tractor is connected to allow in and out movement when the implement is raised and lowered. I set mine up for maximum overlap yet still allowed the play when connected. The sheath on the driveshaft should be secured at both ends - the driveshaft is supposed to spin within the sheath but the sheath should remain stationary.

Any cutter with a cat 1 hitch and a gearbox rating greater than your tractor's pto power will work.

The concern with any rear mounted mower is that it have a floating top link.

If the top link is rigid, then when the tractor goes into a dip, the weight will be carried on the implement rear wheels which will bend the 3 pt hitch assembly.

Landpride has a floating top link. Some owners just use a piece of chain.

You do NOT want the Quick Hitch top hook connecting to your cutter as described in this Landpride manual excerpt
