One thing to check would be the rubber hyd suction hose that is located at the right side floor. They had a problem with these cracking and sucking in air, even on tractors that did not have a lot of hours on them. Make sure it isnt pushed on too far, that would also limit the pump from pulling fluid from the reservoir. Not sure if that is your cause, but it is an easy place to start.

If its an HST transmission then its going to whine and make a racket all the time. Its just the hydraulic pumps working and pushing fluid threw the system.

My L 3000 makes all kinds of strange sounds. It's very noisy. The worst seems to come out of the drive train though. Some things I have located and got the noise to stop. I had a rattle that would drive me crazy. I turned out to be the small arms that are used to support the rear of the loader when you remove it. A bungie cord fixed that right up. another one was the removable side engine panel. The knob that holds it on was good and tight but it still was able to vibrate just a little. A small strip of rubber behind the panel stopped that. Pure dumb luck let me find a rattle on my M 9000. The draw bar vibrates when it doesn't have anything hooked to it and sounds like something it about to fall off the tractor. Little stuff like that can run you crazy.

Guess that is why I PM everthing I have. Some times I feel it is a curse that was tought to me by my dad who sat out on days when he was off work, working on a MF T-20 cause of different problems (I don't want thous problems). But when it ran dang you could cut grass to small trees down!!!
