I'm looking at different implements, and I'm coming across, category 1, 2 and 3, and I haven't seen an explanation of what the specifications are for those categories. Any help is appreciated.

It appears you have a category one tractor. Buy the same implements.

The difference in the hitch is the pin size and spacing. The implement difference is size, weight, strength, and horsepower required.

Attached are dimensions.

Cat 0 I II III IV are category classifications, they are based on size, weight, capabilities, and HP required to use the implement.
Your L will only use Cat I implements.

How you can tell the CAT level is by looking at an Implements pins.

It also has a bearing on the height and width of the pin placement.

Now with that said, there are different levels of cat 1 implements, some even cat 1-2. The cat 1-2 implements will accept both cat 1 & 2 hitch sizes and are common to be a bit more heavy duty than the straight cat 1 implements.

So much of what you really need depends on what your uses will be. But when in doubt and if you can afford it, go with the heavier implement. And when I say heaver, I don't mean something that is called heavy duty, I mean an implement that weighs more than another.

Many manufacturers call their implements HD (heavy duty) when in reality they may not even be (actually) as heavy as another manufacturers medium duty stuff.

All things to watch for, good luck. ;)

Yeah, nothing is ever simple, several pieces of our equipment is cat 1-2 and we use them on an L5740 and M8540.

It's not just weight, but size as well.

I hooked up my 7' 3pt blade from my 1951 ferguson TO30 to my b8200, which is a good sized tractor. When I raised it, it came an inch off the ground.

Great advice there.
