Does Kubota own Gekkeikan? Weird cross reference there, sake & tractors?

Tokyo is high on my list of places I would like to visit. The Japanese are a fascinating people. Their cities are considered among the cleanest and safest in the world. Engineering skills second to none. Obesity level s are 1/10 of that in the US. There is a lot to like and learn from the Japanese. Good for them.

Japan has a very regimented society.

True I suppose.

But different if you live there for a while. Only saying this because I lived there for six years independently...on a student visa, working and studying

Cultural differences are there for sure. But positives and negatives exist everywhere, just differently.

Thinking about it, I guess this is what you were saying anyway...LOL

At the risk of side tracking this thread, one difference I find interesting is in Japanese schools, at least when the kids get beyond elementary school

Who keeps the schools clean? The students do. They clean the school including the toilet facilities. Not sure if they like doing it, but it is part of the culture, and they learn to respect the school facilities I guess, and might be less likely to do things that they might have to clean up themselves afterwards.

Just found this interesting...in past years. I assume it is the same today.

I think the new facility would be an interesting place to work, since it sounds like it has a research slant to it.

I spent several periods 3 or 4 weeks at a time doing research at a university in Maebashi. I really appreciated the cultural differences, and everyone was extremely polite when I got it wrong. There is a difference between self regulation and outside forces making rules. It was a great opportunity to visit and participate compared with visiting as a tourist.

I hope the $90,000,000 100% green facility comes up with solutions for keeping paint off grease fittings and actually tightening them.
