Hello all,

New to this forum, but not long time user of the Polaris General forum. Searched a bit and couldn’t find my answer, sorry if this is a repeat question. We are in the market for a new tractor, and narrowed it down to the Kuboto L4060 and of course the expensive devil John Deere 4044R. The price before I beat them down is a $5000 difference. I am posting a similar post on the green forum and looking forward to hearing each defend or discredit what they own. A little further background, my wife own a 20acre farm (I’m pretty with a strong back). She boards 15 horses, feeds 4 cows, 6 goats, 7 sheep, chickens, geese, ducks, wild turkeys, rabbits, dogs, cats, rats, snakes, and who knows what else. Currently we own 22hp Hinamoto tractor (not much good for anything). Two ridding lawn mowers (looking to up grade, thinking JD x590). We move a lot of manure & gravel pretty regularly. Mow fields, post hole drill & move hay (square bales & round). I bought a 1960 to 1964 IH 2606 65hp tractor but it is too hard for my wife to drive and change implements. That’s right she is a working girl (good training I say). Did I mention very pretty and will never see this post!!!!! Marital advise not needed just stick to the tractors please. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the site! You will be getting many replies from smarter and more experienced people than me; just wanted to say if you have a choice between tractors most here (including myself) are biased toward orange!! Looks like you will need a workhorse so I'll leave the good advise to the others here - just wanted to welcome you!

im in similar situation just a bit smaller Id go ORANGE for sure The L series works well for me. Get a quick attach for 3ph makes hookups a whole lot easier I feed large squares and load and move them with a homemade bale prong attachment to bucket - not to loader arms= Im able to handle almost all chores with my L3300. to do again maybe go a little bigger but not much hope this helps

Ffphil -- welcome to the site. While I think being on the OTT will certainly lend itself to receiving some bias toward owning orange - I have found most people on here to be politely objective.

In terms of larger tractor ownership (something larger than a cub cadet garden tractor), I am relatively new...bought my first Kubota, an M5-111 last year. While we dont know each other, trust me when I say I do my research...I looked at everything from Red, Green, Orange and a few others...while getting a good deal was very important, I will say for me, buying the tractor that I thought would be the most reliable, usable and well built was first and foremost. I watched hours and hours of videos, read countless reviews and advice - talked with several "in the know" tractor owners in my area, and in the end I bought Orange and couldn't be happier with my choice...

So much so, that I just ordered another Kubota, an L4060 last week and should have it by the end of this month...with a wide variety of implements.

The folks that roam around this forum are very knowledgeable and more than willing to help with an opinion or advice - and have helped me tremendously.....

While I dont have a ton of "how to fix it" advice - I am very good at pricing and negotiating and can help you with whats likely a good deal or not and share advice on seemingly good options and implements for your machine - based on the research I've done and the advice I've been given on this forum.

Best of luck with your decision, but I can hands down objectively say, to do all over again, I would no doubt buy Kubota.

Ffphil, welcome. I read your post and found a bit of humor. You have 20 acres and "... boards 15 horses, feeds 4 cows, 6 goats, 7 sheep, chickens, geese, ducks, wild turkeys, rabbits, dogs, cats, rats, snakes, and who knows what else." With the first 4 listed, then ducks and geese (who are great grazers)...what's left to mow????

L4060 is a nice size tractor for your needs. Be sure to get a loader, 3rd function valve, grapple. Buy what you're most comfortable with as primary function, not price.

$5,000 for some green paint!? Does that sound like a good deal?

Both Kubota and JD are nice tractors pick the one that you feel more comfortable on. Each have small differences in operating. Both will hold resale value just as well. Both those tractors should handle the tasks you speak of.

Thanks all! And the animals pretty much eat everything, not a lot of mowing at this time. Hoping to cut the number of horses in half soon. Not sure what you meant by the above. As for implements we will get a 72” bucket HD, the forks attachment, auger and 72” brush hog.

Add a landscape rake to your implement wish list. Very good for raking and spreading horse manure. I have a3560 and 15 acres, horses and sheep, it's dandy.

Probably you have thought of this but both tractors being good solid items that should hold value well (low overall cost of ownership from start to finish), your dealer support and dealer experience might be a factor that makes one different from the other.

Or perhaps that is close to a tie, too.
