New front tires, now causing 4x4 driveline problem

Hello everyone. I had to replace my front tires this last week. I replaced them with the same tire that I took off, Carlisle Farm Specialist 7-16 R1. When I was driving the tractor yesterday, I noticed a new clicking sound that went away when I put the tractor in 2-wheel drive. I know there is a need to have a proper ratio to prevent damage, but am wondering, should I deflate the front tires a little? I'm not sure what the right answer is.

If the rear tires are worn you would have a ratio issue.

You can't trust the tire manufacturers to make the tires the same over the years, so measuring the OD might reveal the problem.

Yes, the rears are worn, but not so much that it's time to replace them.

As the two tire sets wear - they typically wear in a method that had the most friction on them, typically the fronts wear faster anyway - due to the lead ratio and turning corners, once they get down to zero lead - they both wear somewhat evenly.

Once you placed new tires one the front - their ratio has now increased on the front.

As for letting air out -that will decrease the rolling circumference - not sure if it helps the noise however.

Play with the pressure, up or down, and see how it relates to the noise. However, if the clicking is new, I would suspect another issue. Driveline wind up/tension would be sensed while driving, before damage would be done. The first thing to check would be the lug nuts.

Front tires should be 7.2-16, not 7-16.

I don't know diddly about the L2900 but a lot of tractor websites are giving the front tire size of a Kubota L2900 as 5.00-15
Whether that is correct or not, I couldn't say.

What does your manual say?

How would this size (if correct) differ from a Carlisle Farm Specialist 7-16 R1 ?

Those 5.00-15's are for a 2 wheel drive L2900 - shoot, you can place ANY tire that fits the rim on that.

How do 7.2-16's compare to the Carlisle Farm Specialist 7-16 R1 that came off it?

Someone else can do the math this time as I don't know this machine whatsoever.

I am sure there's a % tolerance built into the operation there somewhere

I know that lawn & garden tractor sizes vary considerably by brand. The only thing you can trust is actual measurement after fully inflated.
