I am a new owner of a BX23S and for the hour I was able to use it I love it so far. Hopefully this is the correct forum. I was checking it over after that hour, while eating and noticed the ram seal (one to keep the crud off the ram as it goes in and out) on the backhoe was sitting at the eye and when I looked it was obviously broken. When I checked the others on the back hoe and the FEL, there were only 2 ram seals that were not broken, but they were outside the ram and you can see its dry rotted. They are not leaking but I stopped using it and called the dealer.

Is this normal for new tractors?

Thanks for the quick responses everyone, It does appear to be the sacrificial o-rings. So I guess I can have fun this weekend still :) .. It's a bit odd that when I sent this pic to the sales man they told me to stop using it and they will pick it up on Monday.... New salesman i guess.

Ate they little rubber o rings?

If so those are not part of the seal.. but there to keep paint from getting on the edge of the seal when painted at the factory. They are usually taken off during assembly at the dealer but are often not, both of my new kubota tractors had a few left on

Welcome to OTT. Are you talking about rubber o-ring looking things? If so look at the below Messick's video at the 1 minute 35 second mark. If that's what you are talking about they are just used for when they paint the cylinders and should have been removed by the dealer.

Those may be sacrificial orings used at the factory to protect the rod wipers while painting. See here:

Yep, a picture would be handy but I’m betting the guys are correct about painting at the factory.
Comes up quite often.

Thanks everyone! I watched a ton of the Messicks videos but apparently I missed that one, or didn't think I needed to watch it.

Had a BX 24 for years and decided to upgrade to a 2020 BX23s. I noticed these o-rings sliding on the piston arm and wondered of something was wrong (never saw anything like them on the old machine).

Thank you so much for clearing this up!
