Hello. I'm new here, new to Kubotas and new to tractors in general.

I picked up a B3200 a little over a week ago new from the local dealer (Niagara Implement.)

It's been performing quite well so far (only have had a chance to use the loader, since the snowblower hasn't come in yet..)

I'm not sure if I have a problem with it or not though, and wanted some advice before I go back to the dealer with it.

On starting in colder weather (~25' F) this tractor blows TONS of smoke for the first 15-20 seconds or so - black, blue and everything in between. I've followed all the directions in the manual for time to preheat the plugs, etc. (I've even let them heat for over a minute with the same results.) It doesn't start "smooth" either - it coughs and chokes for the first 10 seconds or so before it finally smoothes out.

Am I doing something wrong here, or could this be a sign of a possible problem with setup or a component?

Any help appreciated!

Regards,
Russ

Sounds perfectly normal to me. The combustion chambers have to warm to completely burn the fuel which, the colder it gets, takes an increasing length of time. If the motor were still smoking heavy after several minutes then perhaps I'd be concerned.

There is another thread about the b3200 that touches on this. It maybe a timing problem. You may want to have it checked. My 3200 starts well and does not seem to have excessive smoke with cold starts.

My 3200 acted the same way. The injection pump timing was off 8 degrees. Now that that the dealer has fixed the issue the tractor will start in any temp with no more than 5-10 seconds on the glow plugs and it no longer misses and coughs and puts out very little smoke. Make them fix it. You will be happy You did. Here is a link to mine starting after the repair.

Yep, sounds like the timing is off, seen this one time on a tractor with about 150 hours on it.

The injection timing can't get "out" on a B kubota, it would have to be out from factory. If it is 8 degree's out the engine should have run rough or "stuttered" at full throttle. Correct timing for the B3200 is 16 to 18 degree's advanced. I recently checked one that I found at 11 degrees, I guess that is about 8 degree's late! Removed a .25 mm shim and it's like a different tractor! There ARE at least a few out there that are late, I'd like to know the serial no of your machine. I found a M125X last spring that was a few degree's late and the customer complaint was excess smoke on cold startup as well. You adjust the timing on them by loosening the bolts and turning the pump. They COULD slip if not tight enough or tampered with. I don't think this one did though.
