We have a few bears come through this area but not many. I was called out to look at a site yesterday, just about all the limbs were torn off this willow tree that had fallen, some off those limbs were over 2" thick. For some reason a lot of the smaller limbs were put in a pile. Not for sure if this was a bear or what. Like to hear from some of you that have been around bears. Have a few pics if needed. Thanks.

Any tracks around to confirm it was a bear? I've lived around bears for a long time and have never seen anything like that from a bear. My first thought is a beaver, they are some crafty little suckers.
It is so dry around here right now I could not find any tracks. That tree had fell across the road a few weeks ago and the owner went to cut it out of the way and found this. Should not be any beavers in this area. Those limbs were broke off.

That was done by a human, note how all the ends of the Twigs are on the same side!

I have lived around and watched and hunted bears my whole life, they don't stack anything methodically. Did you look under the pile? Could be someone put some sort of "bait" or attractant under the pile, so they can view it from a distance, to see if it was disturbed

Looks like the two-legged variety to me. Any bear marking his territory would also mark with "landmines" enough times to be easily noticed.
Im thinking human activity, if it was a bear,it would have been there a while,and would have left some evidence nearby. They dont always s#|+ in the woods you know.
They will mark trees to show their presence, have seen scrapes 6 feet up a tree. damaging trees to obtain food is the normal thing. Nothing much edible on a willow, unless it was full of bugs they like.

People make baskets and other craftsy things out of willow switches and bark. Maybe they took what they wanted and that's what's left? A happier thought than whipping little kids any way.
People could leave landmines as well. You can pee all you want, but some folks just can 't take a hint.
Yes I looked under the pile and nothing there, if this was close to civilization, I would think it was man made, what ever did this came back and moved the tree the second time it was there. The land owner put up a game cam so if it dose come through again we might get a picture.
Bears will tip trees over like that and I have several on our land here that has been clawed up and tipped over. The only time I saw them move brush and stack it is where they den up and then it is thrown all over not stacked. There is a bear den on an island by our beaver pond and they have a hole dug under the roots. In the fall they drag brush over to it. A few tears ago I had oe of the neighbor kids helping me cut firewood and we went for dinner. When we got nacka bears had clawed a tree all up and pushed it over right next to where I left my saw sitting. The kid decided he was done for they day after seeing that tree. I set a camera and a few days later I got a picture of him. He was a big one. We have them several times a year come up on our deck in front of the house. If you think those look bad you had ought to see a cherry tree after they get done with that
