Pat, dont get me wrong, I know everybody has to make a buck, so does the customer.
But sometimes the amounts dealers want to do something is way out of line. And you know as well as I the job of uncrating and removing any mounted equipment is done by the lowest guy there, not saying he shouldnt make a living, just that the dealer needs to come up with some reasonable price.
I mean down at the HD shop they charge 85 bucks an hour, and there is a 2 hour min!!
And how much does the guy working on the bike get, not what he should, we all know that.
I dont mind paying for work I cannot do my self I dont think any one does. However spending all that cash and getting raped too, kinda puts a bit more sting into things, and ya didnt even get kissed !
You are assuming that this is the case at every dealer! At mine you are looking at my best setup guy who has 19 years just at our dealership. His backup is our best and fastest tech who has 14 years at our dealership.

No doubt there are dealers who use high school kids for setup and there are others that have poor grade techs. We have one dealer to the east and one to the south with crappy service departments.

I will be honest, we are not perfect will all make mistakes, it's how the dealer handles the situation.

I will agree with some statements of some trades overcharging. For instance we have had a major plumbing outfit doing our main sewer line cleaning for 6 years for $160.00 each time and this year they came in and said we can't afford to do it at that price it's now $360.00. This is for 60' of main line with one 90 bend. They are in and out in less than an hour so you do math.

We hired another small one man show and his fee was $140.00
I am fully capable of doing this work and have done it in the past. But the equipment that is rented is total junk and has so many kinks which make almost useless.

Pat, just like everything else that one can't get done in a timely manner or cost...business buys an auger and gets the job done in-house when needed. Doesn't take long to pay for the auger, and you have the convenience of getting the job done without waiting.

Soon the high dollar plumber will realize his greed is expensive (to himself)!

Pat -
I did a bunch of restaurant and catering work as a youngster.
People don't realize the fixed costs associated with a business. You know what they are.
It cost $1,100 just to open the door on the place I worked 30 years ago.
Story short, if a guy can do the work himself, great. But to have the dealership do work has a different overhead.....just a fact.
That's why lots of us guys can be handy![emoji41]

But if we need help, it's going to cost a little more.......
