I was moving some firewood Saturday and noticed that one of the front tires was low. Checked the pressure and found only 10 PSI when is should be 52. Would it be best to have a patch placed on the inside of the tire? As you can see in the picture, it is about a third of the way in from the sidewall.

If it was me I would pull the nail, pump in some green slime, air the tire up and run it. I ran a stick about the size of my little finger thru one of my M9000 fronts and slime sealed it right up. I was surprised it sealed a hole that big but it worked.

I personally would just use a radial plug.
You can install it yourself without having to remove the tire. ;)

plug it, slime will rust out the rims
Absolutely, I've had both aluminum & steel wheels damaged by long term slime use, on both ATVs & wheelbarrows.

How long does it take to start the damage? I've had slime in some of my wheels for years and never seen any damage. That said, how often do we get to see inside our tires?

When I replaced my lawn tractor tires the local tire franchise said slime ate the valve stems. I don't think they like dealing with it after the fact. It worked though.

I had slime in a wheelbarrow for maybe 15 years, rim sort of folded up when I attempted to remove tire, no rust visible on the outside.
Had to replace an honda 3 wheeler rim after maybe 8-10 years.
Had noticeable corrosion in alloy wheels, not bad enough to replace, but there.

I know Discount tire hates dealing with slimed wheels/tires, makes a real mess. I'm dreading having to deal with one of my front tractor tires, it was slimed & wouldn't seal, so I took it in for a tube. I asked them to clean the slime out & offered to pay extra, but they said "No problem, we deal with this all the time." Got my wheel/tire back in about 5 minutes, & they threw it in the back of my truck. When I got home, I found the whole thing completely covered in slime- they just stuffed a tube in it & inflated it, squishing that crap out everywhere. My guess is that the bead is going to be glued on & the tube will be glued inside the tire.

Yup, and I especially like finding this sort of thing after I'm 150 miles from where I paid for it.

Plug patch is best, radial plugs get you home. Slime is glygol based, will wash out with hot water. Had a tire that must have had four cans of tire sealant in it, was a nasty mess (picture half hardened contact cement). spray can sealants are the worst.

Glad you got it fixed.

Here are pics of my B7100 front rims- they had slime in them since before I owned it. (5+years) The red/orange one had slime in it when I broke it down, the gray looking one had the slime cleaned out & and a tube installed with talcum powder about 2 years ago. They're usable, but will need some clean up.

Since you've got it plugged, the point is moot, but here's my 2 cents, anyway. The radial plug is easiest, the Patch is most airtight, and slime is a pain in the ass, specially in bigger tires. Nothing beats the expression, on a tire guy's face, when he pops the bead off to have a gallon of that shit dripping on his boots, floor and equipment...:D

After a couple hours of power wire brushing, primer, & paint- ready for tire mounting.
