Hi All.

I purchased a L4740 with cab last week. It came from a farm machinery auction where they have a monthly auction.

I looked at the 4740 and just assumed it was a new one, there were many brand new tractors in the sale. It showed 750 hours on the clock.

I spent a couple of hours going over it and it still looked brand new. Even the smell was of a new tractor. Not a sign of any use at all, the air filter pure white, the seat just perfect, not even a sign of a scratch anywhere, even on the lift arms.

I made the assumption that the clock was wrong as it was just so perfect, then I found 750 hrs scratched on the hydraulic filter.

So what do we think that the story is, maybe hooked to something via the pto and run 750 hrs. No occupant.

I am no dummy when it comes to used equipment, although my area of expertise is with aircraft. This tractor is just too perfect.

The model is L4740D and the ser# 30547

It is one beautiful tractor.

My B7100 racks up the hours if the ignition is left switched to "ON"
but I guess yours, would have a more reliable method of counting them so,pass !

I work in the construction equipment industry, and many times I have seen low hour unit look almost new, sometimes even almost brand new. We have had units painted by shops, replaced seats and freshened up the units prior to sale to command a better price. Most of what dictates that is if the unit is in good shape and the prep and paint will add value or if it is very rough will cost more in paint work than it is worth.
Now to me the big question is the 750hrs marked on the hyd filter with 750 on the clock, to me (as a mechanic) that tells me they marked it to say it was just changed and the new air filter. Rarely is equipment serviced that soon prior to an auction sale, most times they are sold as is,( less money in - more $$ out of it at the end of the sale). We typically send unit out to auction brokers as-is. Unit serviced prior to sale are for customers prior to delivery.
