Hi all,
just a follow on really to my previous thread regarding my recent refub and fitting etc of a backhoe and subframe etc to my B8200.
Its been pretty dry here in my location for awhile now and it is allway a good opportunity to get those nasty jobs done that would normally impossible do at any other time.
We have a very high water table combined to a real thick clay soil composition, this is terrible in the winter and summer but does make for perfect pond conditions for the large part of the year, once full up it doesnt leak at all , it only really goes down through natutral proccess etc.
This has been a dry season and we havent really bothered refiiling it manually until now.
Anyway, it was down to the last foot or so of water, but, there was beneath that 2 feet of stinking slugde, tree branches and all sort of debris.
Now seemed like as good atime as any to ge the B8200 and backhoe into action.
It took a good 3 solid days to excavate all the sludge etc and get it into managable heaps, if you can call it heaps of slop.
decided to damm up one end of the pond, a pretty well unuseable part, and put 75% of the really sloppy stuff into it, when it dries i can grade over it and then regrass the area, the remaining gloop had to be dumped on the back of the pond where it can dry out and also be lanscaped.
I hate to think how much muck i moved with the 8200 and backhoe last week, certainly in the region of 80-100 tons, and that is being honest with you all.
Anyway pretty well all done , well the 1st stage of clearing out etc that is, next is the landscaping stage again.
I have anlarged the pond a bit, not a great deal more but it does make for a better one now, a bit deaper in places also, 6ft max in deapest parts and 3-4 in others with graded banks allround to a countoured bed.
I'll leave it for 12months before i re-tstock with some carp etc, give time for plant and pond life to get a bit more established.
refilled it over 3 days, probably close to 200,000 gallons .
The b8200 worked briliantly and is a true workhorse and with the backhoe its a great tool, only wish i had an FEL on the front, maybe get one in the future when i see one for sale.
You may think , well, why not hire a 360 machine and save time, simple answer i didnt want to payout upto £1000 when i had some equipment that would do it for zero. (fuel not inc, but fuel in hire machine is charged aswell).
So , if like me you need to tackle a task even if it may seem a tad larger than youwould like to do with limited equipment, dont be frightened to give it a go, you may surpise yourself
piccy here to.
