I have been looking at some of the homemade cabs on here and decided to build my own.
I'm using 1" square tubing and 1.5" angle iron.

Progress so far:
The frame of the cab is complete. The door is framed up and mounted in the left side of the cab.
Next step is to build the roof out of angle iron and sheet metal.
I welded the 1" tubing together and have mounted the cab to the tractor with bolts so I can take it off during the summer. The roof will be attached to the cab with bolts as well so it will be easier to remove. I plan to use lexan for the windows and the door.
The plan is to put a hot water heater and a wiper in my cab at some point so if anyone has pointers on this it would be appreciated.
I'll post more pictures as I progress.

Today I framed the roof by welding 1-1/2" angle iron together and am in the process of welding on 14 gauge sheet metal to the top. The whole top is attached to the cab frame with welded tabs on the roof frame bolted to the cab.
I am hoping to get the lexan for the windows and finish welding the sheet metal on the roof tomorrow. Also, if it is a nicer day, I will take some more pictures and post them.

Here are a few more pictures. I actually had to re-weld on new hinges because I bent the original ones when the door got caught on the rear tire.

The last few days I have been working at putting the lexan windows on my new cab. I got some lights for free from my father, but they didn't work very good so I bought a couple cheap floodlights from princess auto. I'll test them out tonight.
I bought some rubber matting today and made a panel to attach to the back of my cab and under the toolbox too seal up under the seat.
I got a heater with a fan on it for free and have to figure out how to mount that.
I still have to paint my cab but that will have to wait until it gets much warmer out.

Here are my latest pictures. It still has to be painted but works great so far. I also still have to install the heater when I can find the fittings I need.
The cab cost approximately $700 and took me about 60 hours to this stage.

That is one nice job done. Looks like you have a lot of driveway to clear also. I've got 1.3 km's to clear....sure would be nice to have a cab. I already have a mig welder so probably when it gets warmer. Do you think you'll need a windshield wiper along with the heater?
I think that once the heater is installed, I will need a wiper. With the snow melting on the window I'm sure it will be hard to see without a wiper.
My driveway is about 800 ft long.

Verra nice!! A well done job. I hope to get one built for my L3800. That's what I said about my last tractor too(didn't ever do it, had it 17 years)!
Nice Job ! You may want some defroster vents to keep your windshield visibility clear as the wind blows wet melting snow back on your windows.

Thank you. So far it hasn't fogged up. A wiper would make a difference though.
When I get my heater installed I will have a duct to direct warm air onto the windshield though.
the area you plan on using a windshield wiper on.
you need to remove the lexan and frame in some glass.
the wiper blade will make short work of the lexan.
scratches from the wiper blade, will make it hard to see within a few uses… a half window. (upper half of the front) would work good. weld in some angle and silicone glue the glass into the new frame.. if you want to go a bit extra you can make two flat strips of metal to retain the glass from the outside… the silicone should work… or you can use automotive windshield glue…
a back window from a pickup, acquired from local recycler yard. cut to fit would work great.. that way you have safety glass…and much less cost than new…

Looks good! In fact it looks just like mine, except mine is build out of 1 1/2 inch angle iron and is in 5 pc. All 4 sides bolt together, then the roof on top. Makes it easy to take off after the winter. I used lexan as well all the way around but plywood on the roof. Didnt bother with a heater or wiper. Just being out of the wind makes a huge difference and is all i was after.
