I've had the Tank Reserve (fuel) fail 3 times now on my MX5200HST (2015) and spits diesel fuel everywhere. I bought it used in '23 and it's failed in the same spot at least twice. I think the first failure was a different barb but i'm not 100% sure. This time (and last) the center, bottom barb fitting failed. I put some zip ties between the 3 hoses to add some strain relief so I don't believe it's a vibration or side pressure on the barb fitting causing a failure.
This time the tractor had just finished an automatic DPF regen on a hot day (~95 degrees and humid) where the tractor had been used all morning (8am to 3pm minus a lunch break) with an 8ft pull behind bushhog. There was no elevated temperature on the gauge as I often have to monitor that and dust off the radiator (and the diesel cooler, oil cooler). This is the first failure where I was the driver. My FIL was the unfortunate driver the previous 2 times and while he said there was a light on the dash, he doesn't recall which one was lit.
My theory is that the DPF regen causes the diesel to get too hot and it weakens/damages the barb fitting. Where should I start my diagnosis? Anyone seen similar failures? My searches have come up with nothing. The local dealer told us he had never seen that part fail over his many years so I believe I have another problem that is manifesting itself in overheated diesel. I'm getting tired of buying this part seasonally.
