First post!

My used MX5200 that I bought new last year is approaching its 300 hour service mark. How much should I expect to pay at a Kubota dealer for the service?

They’ll have to come get the tractor, since I don’t have a means to tow it there.

I’m pretty handy and could probably do this myself, but something about it makes me nervous. I would rather pay a shop to do it.

Get the manuals and do it yourself. The money saved over the life of the tractor will make it worth the effort. Look up the capacities of the motor and the hydraulic oil and go to your dealer and buy everything. Learn to do it yourself.

Think of it as a puzzle that you must figure out. And if you get stuck you come back here with the questions.

Spend the money to buy the tools that you will need instead of paying someone to haul your tractor to the dealer. It is not rocket science my friend.

Full fluid and filter service on my M6040 is close to $500 just for parts.
It is really pretty straight forward work for anyone with a few tools, common sense and a WSM.

If you can change the oil on your vehicle you can do the service.

Pull plugs, drain fluid, change filters, replace plugs, fill.... Your done. Nothing to it.

Easy but messy if you don't have a large drain pan. I took a 100 gallon aluminum diesel fuel tank and plasma cut the end off, Tig welded on aluminum bar stock handles and I use that. It will hold all the gearcase fluid my M's have, 14.5 gallons and it does the crankcase oil too.

Use Genuine Kubota filters all around. The hardest filter to remove will be the spin on fuel filter (if you have a loader installed), access is right (unless you remove the loader but still doable. Make sure you fill the new filter with fresh diesel before you install it, save pumping the primer pump on top the housing.

Take the used fluids and put it in the now empty jugs and recycle it at your local auto parts store or the dealer. My dealer takes used oil and uses it to heat his shop.

I use a cheap HF battery powered transfer pump to suck the used fluid from the aluminum drain pan into the jugs (in my case, 5 gallon pails.). The HF pump is less than 10 bucks, takes 2 D cell batteries.

Easy peasy.

Finally, use Kubota fluid and quality motor oil. I run Rotella T6 5-40 in my engines and Chevron THC Synthetic in the gearcases which is slightly more expensive than SUDR actually but flows better in cold temps and I use my tractors for snow removal in the winter.

Like the others, I recommend doing services yourself for multiple reasons.

That said, if you want to know what your dealer will charge to do it, the easiest way to find out is to call the service department.

If your dealer is anything like mine, they charge $110/hr for hauling from the time that the driver picks up the service order until he places the keys on the service manager's desk after unloading (both directions).

Hey thanks guys.

Will my manual that came with my tractor cover everything I need to know? Or is there another publication I should buy to make it easier?

Your owners manual will cover all the lube capacities, buy them accordingly. Far as what to do, not difficult other than taking off some filters and pulling some drain plugs and your owners manual will show you the drain plug locations. Don't forget to put the sealing washers back on the drain plugs and be sure the filter gaskets don't stay on the filter bosses when you pull the filters, especially the hydraulic filters.

Guess I get away cheap on transport. My dealer charges me a 100 buck flat rate both ways and his shop rate is 80 bucks per hour. Probably why he's always so busy, best game (cost wise) around here. Glad I bought them there and also glad the lead tech and I are personal friends outside work. I know when they do something it's done right all the time.... because he's the only one who works on my tractors.

I just did the 400 hour service on my MX4800 myself, pretty easy. Cost was about 200 for 6 filters (2 hyd 1 oil and 1 fuel 2 air filters) 100 for a 5 gal bucket of SUDT. I already had the engine oil as I use it in other vehicles.

Took about an hour and was all pretty easy as per the manual. There was nothing out of the ordinary with it.

You don’t need to replace the inner air filter

Just a couple of additional thoughts/suggestion.

When adding engine oil (as well as other lubricants) add 1 quart less than what is stated in the manual, as they are not always accurate. Then run the engine/tractor, let it set for a few minutes and add additional fluids gradually, and bring to appropriate levels on dip stick, sight glass, etc.

As you go through your manual to determine which plugs to remove, have a yellow paint marker handy and paint the top of the plugs, to make it easier to identify on you next round of maintenance.

Go to YouTube and search the “ just tinkering” page. The guy has an mx5200 and has lots of videos showing how to do all the maintenance. If you search “ mx5200 oil change” one of his videos is first listed. You can the. Watch the rest.
He explains well and demonstrates
