When going from 2WD to 4WD the linkage snaps in fine and performs correctly, however when returning back to 2WD at a stand still and with some movement, it sometimes is very diffcult and needs to be forced more then I believe is necessary. Any thoughts? Thanks

Disengaging the front axle is easiest while moving and gradually starting to slow so that the driveline isn't under load. For the same reason, it is preferable to disengage while traveling in a fairly straight line.

My Deere 955 has always been the same way and Deere advises that although it can be shifted in and out of FWA (Deere refers to it as front wheel assist instead of 4WD on their smaller tractors with unequal tire sizes front to rear) under speed and load, that shifting out of front wheel assist will be easier when the tractor is moving without heavy load on the driveline.

On my MX6000 I found mine goes from 4WD back to 2WD very easy if I just touch the HST pedal in reverse while pulling the handle. Of course this is from a stand still.

Same as my L6060. If it seems tight, I back up a bit and it pops right out. My RTV is the same way also.

If the loader is on, raise the front off the ground with the loader. That relieves any pressure on the gears in the driveline and makes shifting in and out of 4WD quite easy.

Also, turning the steering wheel all the way to the right or left while stopped will allow you to make the shift back into 2WD easily. It is annoying how these tractors will drop into 4x4 easily, but be so difficult to smoothly get back into 2wd. I guess you can have peace of mind knowing they are all like that.
