Of course keep your body parts clear. Start with the simplest things. Does the switch itself move as it should? Does it switch power as it should?

1st get the wiring diagram out of the WSM for your Kubota. Without that you'll spend hours and may not find the reason. Post which model you have, there may be a WSM at www.kubotabooks.com.

The mower deck shouldn't shut off - the tractor (engine) should shut off.

The tractor has an Operator Presents Control (OPC). The safety switch in the seat is part of that system. If the PTO is engaged or you're pushing on the pedal to go forward or backwards and get up off the seat in engine should stop. Check the seat switch first.

I didn't see a BX1850 WSM on K-books but there is a WSM for the BX1860 which is the next model starting in 2009. The electrical diagram should be similar enough to trouble shoot.
