My ZD 326 will not start and I need to take to mechanic, how do I release so I can load on trailer.

You would likely be better off posting your problem so the guys here can help you get it to run. I have a zd323 and I don't know of a release option.

Try jacking the back tires off the ground and putting a couple dollies like this under them. Then use a winch or come-along to get it on your trailer.

Any idea what the problem is? Start with the simple things: Fuel or fuel filters?Air in the fuel line? Safety switches? Bad battery connections?

Yup. No way to make it freewheel 
As previously recommended, dollies will work. I have several metal dollies that are made for vehicle tires - Harbor Freight has them.
I am somewhat knowledgeable in the zd326 fuel and starting systems if you are interested in fixing it yourself.

Doing a little research, I see Hydro-Gear makes some of the pumps for the gas powered Kubota ZTR's but not for the diesel's.
I know you can freewheel Hydro-Gear pumps, I have them on my CC 60" tank.
Kind of a bummer not to be able to freewheel the back wheels.

The diesels don't have free-wheel release levers. Kubota makes the HST's for the ZD series mowers. They might outsource some of the parts for 'em but they ARE Kubota HST's. To move one, you push (or pull)-slowly. The harder you push or pull, the harder it works against you. Just go slow. It'll be fine. You'll hear a clicking noise which is normal.
A lot depends on your trailer.
You can...
1.Use your come-a-long and take it for a drag onto your trailer.
2.use bogies/wheel jack for less dragging action on the wheels.
3.use your tractor/forklift to pick up the ZD and put it on the trailer. No dragging needed.

I have always thought about what I would do if one of my ZD'S broke down in the neighborhood. The mowers are too heavy to lift with my L4060, but I think I could get the rear a few inches off the ground and push it on the front wheels to home. I'll give it a test run soon.
