Well, I went north today and spent the day with the tractor. When I left there were 2 packets of fresh cab under the hood, a bucket trap next to a front tire, and a bait station of mouse poison out. We shall see.
Thank you so much for the ideas. This is a great site.
The only problem I can see is you are mixing methods. Fresh Cab is designed/made to repel, but the poison will attract.

I do know that when cleaning up after a mouse do NOT use bleach or cleaners with bleach. The mouse urine contains high amounts of ammonia. Bleach and ammonia do not mix, as my wife found out.

Dryer sheets=Fail. Mouse made a nest right on top of a month old dryer sheet. I didnt put fresh cab in my ramcharger one winter. Figured dryer sheets are as good.
Lesson learned.

While i was mowing my back 4,there was a wise old crow that would perch and watch for mice. Gave me the idea to keep grass short around my buildings.
Just one more line of defence against mice.

My concern with this plan, poison and rodent crawls in somewhere and expires.
Repel them away from valuables and attract them towards traps. Trap and dispose.

Bleach and ammonia most certainly do mix. And they produce very nasty vapors when they do.

Well I made a bucket trap and put two fresh cab packets under the hood. Week later i go back and a mouse is building a nest right flat on top of one of the packets. Back to drawing board. Found a forum frequented by classic car guys. Got the idea to leave the hood open. Mice like dark and protected places. Have been leaving hood open and fresh cab packets on engine. So far that seems to be working. We shall see.

If you notice older farm vehicles parked out back have the hood up, mostly to keep the pack rats out. They'll haul enough sticks in there to start a fire and keep warm with!
