More on the B7100 MMM

Ok - somebody explain to me when the thought of greasing something that spins or rubs against another piece of metal was against the law????

OMG - I spend almost 4 hours on 3 spindles, 4 deck height wheels. The last time they saw grease was during the Bush era....and I am talking ol' H.W.!

Went and got a belt - the PO musta winged it ....cause that size and it was in pieces....was 2" too short - I got a replacement one and the idler pulley was still rubbing the main spindle - I'll exchange it tomorrow for the 121" one.

If anyone has any doubt on the durability of the Kubota MMM's - they are tough as nails. Never touched a heavier - better built piece of machinery.

Now - I noticed the MMM drive shaft (pto) is reaaaallly sick - the end that connects to the tractor is at a point that no matter what I do - I cannot unhook it ....the "bell" would not slide back and after looking at it closer, the entire housing is toast- the bell is loose from the spring or whatever inside .........and the uni-joint is cracked like a piece of ice!!!! (I upload pictures tomorrow)

Someone pleeeeease tell me how to get that sum-beauch off and IF there is another source for the uni-joint OTHER than Kubota????? Holy cow - Kubota is nice stuff - but they are expensive as all get out on parts!

Well now - got the dyno off -

rather than take the head off, I took the entire front end off, radiator, fan, etc....

3 hours later , well - do I need a new DYNO?????

these bearing are fine right????

First - the offset 10mm ratcheting wrench ...... well worth that $10

then the dyno ....taken apart ....mmmmmmm

now there are TWO SETs of bearings.......one set - all that left is the outer race....the set deep in the dyno is missing a few balls.....I hate when that happens!!!!

Those who ever have to tackle the dyno removal .....really is not that bad - I understand why NIW used a cutoff open end wrench, even with the ratcheting style, it is still hard - Not looking forward to getting THAT nut back on!!

I'm wondering if the previous owner cranked the fan belt too tight. That usually will put excessive pressure on the bearings. Check with a bearing shop for your new bearings, the one that is still semi intact should have a name and part number stamped on the side of the race. Should be able to call the bearing shop or auto parts store and they should be able to cross reference the number.

Oh, and those hard to reach nuts and bolts, come out easier then they go back in. Your hands end up being twice the size needed to be able to fit back in the space that's provided

All looks good to me...just put your balls back and all should be good...lol. Glad to hear it came apart. It gives me hope when the dreaded day comes when I have to replace mine.

I was already getting ready to order a whole new dyno.....about $200 when it was said and done with ...

then I ran across a thread on another board - bearing number 6201 ......so I went down to NAPA - took my dial caliper with me and sure enough the internet DIDNT lie!!!.....their bearings are 4 bucks a piece - sooooo - sat morning I will get a pair!!! of.....bearings!

I had to beat living hell out of the bearing you see in the picture with it's seven balls - had the perfect solution too - a socket the perfect size for the pathway.....tap tap tap....and the inside race came through....so I had to take a straight blade screw driver and catch the inner race and tap tap tap....well 432 taps later ...I had the outer race in my hand, of course it's balls where ALL over the floor!

Here is another picture of of the engine after a clean, looks almost as good as ProcraftMikes!

AND I cannot wait to stick that little $@#%$%$ nut back on ......I have an idea, NASCAR glues their NUTS on the rims....so when they hit the air wrench the glue flies off and nuts get tight, wonder if I could do something like that, cause that little nut is gonna make me cuss, once or twice or 522 times! I am going and get a few more nuts, so when I drop one on the ground - I will not take the 20 minutes looking for it!!!!

Yes sir, keeping 192$ in your pocket is a no brainer Cost me 10$ for the sealed bearings for my fan on the tractor

85Hokie, slide some cardboard under your tractor when you work on it. Then you can hear the part fall and find it easier.

Good point on the cardboard - hell I already dropped the very first nut off - had to get up and go get my magnet to find it!!! I have stuck myself in the back of a gravel (57's) shed floor- so my working conditions are ....well......they aint perfect!!!!

I think I have a small piece of Luan that I will shove up under the belly of the ol girl as to not loose anything.....including my MIND!!

O - and Cat - those meetings start next month!!!

Since you have it that far apart, take a good look at that fan adjustment pulley to make sure the bearing is still good in it. It's a piece of cake to change, now that it is right in front of you. I believe that bearing is a #6203. The number is right on the side of the bearing.
