Modified/adapted snow plow.

I wanted a front mount snow blade to attach on my loader, so I modified an old Bolens 42" blade that a friend gave me. Here it is near the start, along with the old water heater tank that I used to extend the plow.

I added around 11" to each side, and built new rear ribs from flat plate. Lower structure is simple 2" angle iron.

I modified the old Bolens framework too. I widened the attachment points, put in some spreaders, and a piece of pipe to drop a 1/2" pin through to hold the angle adjustment.

Here it is all painted and assembled. I got the quick attach blank plate from Amazon. I decided to just weld the skid shoes on solid.

I got a 1/4" plate cut 60" wide for a cutting edge, and centered the bolt holes so it's reversible to use both sides.

Maybe it'll be good enough to keep us from getting any snow this year.

I made a gas powered SSQA dual 24" blower 4 years ago....it kept most of the white away, so never used it

Edit: if those are the original trip springs you may need to either add additional ones or replace them with stiffer ones. I made a plow some years ago for a lawn tractor out of plate steel I recylced from a building. The biggest hurdle was the trip springs and getting the plow to not just flop over when it got loaded up

The biggest hurdle was the trip springs and getting the plow to not just flop over when it got loaded up

I did think about the springs. I found some that are similar sized and made for a 60" plow, but figured I'd try it first and see how they work. Easy enough to change them later.

Bolens built their tractors & implements to last back then . I have 3 that run & another waitin for the rite rainy month . DO ya have a link for the SSQA plate ?

The heater tank panel was close enough that I just bounced on it with my feet to bend it some, then used C-clamps to hold it for welding.

I did the same thing with a J Deere 44in. blade. Mine attaches with padeyes in the pin on bucket on my 2301. The inside of the water heater was very rough , the glass lining?, that I end up using the outer metal cover , the white side out, to help snow peel off the blade. It also added weight which helps. Altered the skids and trip springs .
