Sam's Club had a "One Day Sale" on Saturday. I called ahead of time to make sure they would have the theater chair, that was advertised, in stock. That would determine if I drove the truck, the answer was affirmative. Sure enough they were in stock, about a dozen well sealed boxes stacked in the middle of the aisle. No display model to sit in and no associates nearby to ask about it. As I said the boxes were very well sealed and I could not even get a feel of the product. Who in their right mind would purchase a $300 chair, very personal item, without sitting in it? I wonder how many they sold and if anyone in management caught the glaring error of their displaying this item.
Need to blow the truck out now and then so that part was not an issue and we did stock up, not hard to spend a few hundred there.

Never been in one. My wife goes to Costo once a month, never been in that either. Closest I get to any of that is Harbor Freight.

Club stores save by not having floor models and only large sizes due to handling and shipping is often more cost than the item being sold.
If there had been a floor model of the chair, the prices of the boxed chairs would have to be higher to make up for selling the floor model (at a discount) later. You could of always bough the chair, opened the box in your truck, checked the chair out and returned it if you did not like it.

A side note, AA batteries last so much longer these days and the products are so much more efficient. My old PC mouse, the batteries lasted about 2 months, now in my most recent mouse, they last about a year. So I get the '48' pack. Everything now uses AA batteries. Yet 48 is more than a years supply. I swap out batteries more now due to age then because the died. I may have to start buying smaller packages....

With current supply chain issues, having a display model means one less available for ready sale in a very short market. (Says the retired marketing prof who found out a couple days ago that the estimated delivery date for my Kubota F2690 was pushed back from early August to maybe November because of the wait for a mower deck)

I never had a problem selling display units when I ran 3 Radio Shacks. The customer KNEW it worked and I'd toss in speaker cables for free.

As for modern marketing strategies, building backlinks from Quora could be helpful in driving traffic to your website.
I read on CNN that Quora was a front used by the dark web to steal customer data/CC info.

While this thread is a bit old, I still wanted to chime in. It sounds like you had a frustrating experience with Sam's Club. As for modern marketing strategies, building backlinks from Quora could be helpful in driving traffic to your website. However, it's important to also focus on user experience and making sure your product or service is accessible and appealing to potential customers.
Are you an autonomous bot or are you controlled by a specific entity?

Years ago my boss and I were in the city. So while there he decided to stock up on supplies at Costco.

One of the things he wanted was an office chair.

Well he sat down in the display model. Leaned back...... and tipped over 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

He hurriedly picked himself off the floor, looked around to make sure nobody else witnessed what he did and then took off out of that aisle.

As we were walking away he looked at me and said "We will not speak of this....... ever!!!!" 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

It's weird that they had the theater chairs all sealed up with no display or associates around. I mean, how are we supposed to know if they're comfy or not if we can't even sit in them, right? It definitely seems like a risky move to buy something as personal as a chair without being able to test it out first. I wonder if anyone in management realized the mistake too.
This thread just won't die!!

All I can say is that those who don't understand buying something without tangibly examining it first are obviously too young to remember the days of mail order catalogs, but too old to use Amazon.

I remember Pops buying a Marlin 30-30, a couple boxes of "shells" and some baling wire from Sears catalog.

I’m old enough to remember mail ordering stuff based on pictures in catalogs. No internet to research. No product reviews. Non-existent or much more restrictive return policies. For the most part worked fine but there were some things where what you got compared to what you saw in the catalog was kind of hard to reconcile. Example, Sea Monkeys were actually a thing when I was a kid. So you order…

You get…

Brine shrimp. First one of my friends whose parents allowed him to order some (mine refused), I was jealous until I saw them. Told him I could go down to the black water hole between the buckwheat field and the creek and get a bucket of mosquito larva for free if I wanted bugs in a fish bowl.

Those of us traumatized by Sea Monkeys as kids prefer to sit in the chair. 😉

A chair is very personal and you need to try it first if possible. I needed an office chair in 2020 and bought and returned several before I found the one I liked. What a waste of resources. Now I just go to Office Depot and try them out till I find one that suites me.
Couches and recliners are the same. We spent months testing out furniture for the sun room until the wife found one she liked. Ended up buying from a small furniture store in town and not any of the big box stores. Cost was comparable but quality was night and day.

Some companies are insane. I have been waiting 14 months for a replacement for my builtin Sub Zero refrigerator. I am on the verge of canceling and demanding a refund of my depisit. I could drive 4 hours to NJ, pick it up frim a stocking distributor,, and have it back home in two days for less than the local distributor is asking.

gee Dan there's no way I'd be without a fridge for 14 hours or 14 days let alone 14 MONTHS. Must be a very, very special fridge ??
Interesting 'roadtrip math' . 4hrs there, 4 hrs back is 8 hrs not 2 days, though I suspect you have other stops along the way......
