MMM height adjustment knob works REALLY hard

I will prob get booted from the board for posting too many question... but this place is awesome...so my mower adjustment knob on bx1880 works really hard in both directions. is this normal? is there an adjustment? i have to put both hands on the darn thing and its still a struggle some times

Raise it all the way and see if this will help

then again a little lube wont hurt

BINGO!!

Takes all the pressure off the linkage. That knob is not meant to raise/lower the deck with you turning it by hand.

Adjust it when it's all the way up, then lower it to where you want it!!

If it's not where you want it....raise it all the way again.....lather, rinse and repeat.

on my tractor if I raise it ALL the way it gets hard to move but if I raise it ALMOST all the way it moves easy.

Oh, gotcha. I did misunderstand. Sorry. I wasn’t trying to be a smart Alec either.
Sometimes they do need some lubricant to free them up.
Yours is new, I might be apt to give the dealer a call.
Also, the mention of it being more free when raised almost to the top sounds like mine also.
Just for giggles, raise the deck almost to top, then try turning the knob. Try both directions, seems mine likes one direction over the other.
They can be a little finicky....wish I could give some better suggestions!!

The MMM height knob mechanism is low tech. The knob is connected by a shaft to a round staircase gadget under the tractor, it cannot be turned unless the deck is all the way up because the linkage is under pressure I think there's a spring involved. You may be able to force it down stairs but I advise against this, raise fully, adjust, then lower the deck.

The deck has to be raised up past even where you set the deck in the up locked position to take the pressure off the linkage and disengage that linkage arm from the notches in the round staircase gadget, then you can turn the knob. If the knob is still difficult to turn in the full UP position its not adjusted properly see your dealer.

Note on my new BX2380 even when fully up mine only turns in one direction. I think I remember I could turn my older B2920 in both directions but not the BX2380.

Don't feel bad when I bought my first Kubota B2920 this was the first think that perplexed me, knob wouldn't budge, I just assumed the deck height adjustment was more high tech than this. lol

My BX24 has a double nut on a linkage rod that will allow the mower to raise more or less & release pressure so the knob will turn easier. You don't have to turn it much.

I don't think that's it, but you're close.

See the slotted bracket in your picture? Follow that to the back of the tractor. You may see a bolt head looking at you, with another nut to lock it's position.

Hockey--- you release the bolt by loosening the nut first.
Don't remember which direction the bolt goes. Been several years.

My tractor has had many problems with deck height adjustment. Had it to dealer a couple of times . After a year I thought I was out of the woods but I'm struggling to adjust the deck again . I have noticed the deck bounces up and down at full up and traveling.I am guessing I'm not traveling all the way to the top to take weight off the adjustment linkage. Will have to reasearch adjustments.

Also a newb. I'm having the same problem, I read it might be the top link length. When I removed the box blade I was able to adjust, with box blade on no way. I'm going to check it out tomorrow morning. Found an old thread that said just shorten top link

If you get it too loose, the deck falls while using-and people throw a fit. Too tight and some folks can't turn it. I've never had any problem with it but my hands are considerably larger than most--have somewhat easily twisted the knobs off of some of them trying to get them freed. Sometimes working on B's and BX's that's a big problem, but anyway, one can take the linkage apart and adjust the detent spring a little at a time and that can work. If you go to far with it the spring is junk and then it needs to be replaced. Sometimes grease helps too but the problem there is that it also attracts dirt and junk, and in time will become close to impossible to move it.

I was frustrated with my adjustment know, until it finally became impossible to move one day and was stuck at the 4" position. I discovered two solutions from reading here and other places.

The simplest was lubrication. Looking underneath I couldn't see anything binding on the cam, but the knob still wouldn't turn. A quick shot of JB80 down the shaft behind the knob, and voila it turns so much easier! Couldn't believe it.

Next I have seen videos of guys spinning theirs around and around 360 degrees, but mine would never go past the TOP position. Actually it wouldn't even go to the top position. Looking underneath I could see the tab on the cam was actually hitting a tab on the position bar. I tightened the adjustment bolt on the rear by the 3 point until the tabs no longer interfered with each other. Bingo, I now have 360 degrees of rotation, plus the TOP lock position. It was just never set right by the dealer or factory.
