A family member has been in Michigan now just over a year and she keeps sending me buck photos from there. Unbelievable the antlers. Must be well feed corn.
And right behind the house. The November photos where the same. Right behind the house.

Wow - one looks really stout.

We have a lot of deer in our area and property.

Excess deer population has limited forest regeneration severely in a lot of upstate New York.

They certainly wouldn’t bed down just outside the house.

Geddy wouldn’t stand for it. 🐾

I guess an advantage of having a dog.

Several years ago I hunted on the Aransas Pass Natl Refuge during a population control effort. One side of fence was temporarily legal to hunt and the other side was off limits to hunting. It was unbelievable how quickly deer figured out which side was safe and showed little concern for humans.

I’ve been seeing mule deer on my property every day. They’re about as tame as those in the photo.

We definitely have some healthy deer in Michigan, especially in the southern lower peninsula, along with an over population in many areas of the SLP.
The deer figure out where they are safe. We will see does and fawns come up in our yard but if they even see movement through a window or the slider to the deck they take off. There is a lot of hunting pressure in our area.

My friend is in Rochester hills I believe.
I did the Google earth. Houses in every direction. But photos last fall in the back yard deer with 12" tines. Bigger then any I've ever seen here in Maine.

This afternoon. Don’t know where the buck’s antlers will end up, but he looked of decent body size. Doe looked very small in comparison.

They both looked young, like yearlings.

I visited a friend in Northern New Jersey a few years ago. When I went out to the car in the morning, there were a bunch of deer on the front lawn, and my presence didn't phase them at all. He told me that because the houses are so close together, there is no hunting in the immediate area, so the deer know that they are safe and are not afraid of humans. Looking around at other homes, there were lots of deer munching on the bushes in front of other homes.

They're in velvet which tends to make them look MUCH bigger than what they would normally look like. They look like an every day average buck to me...

SW Michigan at breakfast time (7-8-24). Herd size is 13 and 7 to 9 will wander this close to our house while the others hang near the tree line.

Caught this little fellow on trail cam last year but never saw him in daylight during hunting season. The other day I saw him in full velvet crossing one of my fields while i was out mowing, he certainly grew over winter and hope to get him on trail cam soon.

That looks like a super buck. 🦌

I’ve always gone after freezer value, but that one has some promise for wall-mount value! 👍

I totally agree with you on going after freezer value. After 48 years of hunting, I have yet to mount a deer, moose, elk or bear. Lots were worthy, just not my thing. Lots of chew toys for the dogs though.

Got a video of a massive bobcat walking right in front of one of my deer stands during deer season. We are getting ready to have our first ever bobcat season as well. I am looking forward to a full body mount. Bobcat.jpg
