I am having problems getting my tractor out of 4 wheel drive?
Found a rod under the tractor slightly bent and straightened it, no other signs ofdamage other than the bent rod.

Tried turning the steering wheel in neutral- as I have done many times before and it will not dis-ingage I have owned this tractor for several years and not new to using it.
Went to my local dealer and trying to get a tractor worked on right now is almost impossible. been a month with no pick up to check it out or service call so I am getting frustrated.

One other problem I am having is I cannot get the dip stick out to check the transmission fluid- will not budge is there some kind of gimmic it should be as simple as lifting up? I opened the fill hole and it seems it is low?

Could the low level be causing this any suggestions that I might try would be appreciated. Rather than writting a book I hope for suggestions.

I have a M7040 and find coming out of 4wd is never just a matter of pushing the lever down. Now I just push the lever down and continue using the tractor. Eventually it will suddenly come out. I think part of the problem is that the front to rear ratios between the tires sizes and differentials along with the design for the gearing between the axles is never perfect. I have read that the front axle is designed to be pulling a little bit faster than the rear which also has the effect of keeping pressure on the gears. This comes up when owners want to change tire sizes and the front to rear diameter ratios change slightly. If I really want it out of 4wd backing up and turning sometimes helps.

Do not see any connection with low fluid levels.

I have no experience with your dipstick. Can you post a picture?
I have never heard of one which screws in but there could be a first :)

Dave-Thank You
You may be on to my problem, every since I had the rear Tires Reversed-Mine does not have spin out rims/hubs I hope the newer models have that, I have been having problems with Dis-engaging 4 wheel drive. I am on a hills a good bit and when I first bought my tractor it was just two box'z. I felt Like I was going to turn over on the slightest grade, widening the rear tires was the trick and made it more stable. But I see your point it could have added to my problem, makes sense
I will try backing up in reverse I havn't tried that yet
Sorry I am old school when it comes to posting pictures.

The regular Oil dip stick is simply pull out? I'll figure that part out.
I have another dealer about Hours drive from me I am going to get some transmission fluid and add a little, and question the dip stick with there service desk. See how busy they are if I have to have it taken in.

Very much appreciated if you have any other suggestions bring them on.
Thanks again
Bob

Same problem arises on any 4 wd vehicle is tires are a little worn unevenly or 1 tire low on air pressure. My M7040 will remain in 4 wd until tire rotations equalize. If it bothers you momentarily reverse tractor as I had to do on one of my 4 WD pickups especially if I pulled from field onto highway.

Bobw, I have a M9000 and sometimes I've found turning the wheels while sitting doesn't work. It seems to do better to turn the wheels while driving or just as you start to move forward with the wheels cut disengage it then.

If your dip stick is like mine (rear, left side) it should just pull straight up to remove it.

I have a M5700 which shares the same owners manual as the 6800 so I think they probably share the 4 wheel drive engagement lever setup . I am well aware of the issue of having difficulty pushing the 4 wheel drive lever down to get out of 4wd.

What works for me is raising the front wheels slightly off the ground using the loader then pushing down on the lever and backing up slowly. The 4wd lever will easily push down at that time, at least it always works for me. Do not try to force the lever down as it just bend the linkage, just use light pressure.

Good luck...

I will try that, and yes the the manuals does seem the same. Taking that pressure off just might help. I hope so

As for the dip stick I talked to a dealer mechanic today and he said the seal/rubber gasket around the dip stick could have swollen? I tried to take a pair of pliers and get additional pressure and It will not budge upward. I can twist it around and it will move around but not up. The mechanic said he has never heard of this before?

Wondering if there is a direct 800=phone number to Kubota's customer service like a Help Line if any one knows for trouble shooting?
