Is there a test that anyone uses to determine if there loader is lifting to its max capacity? i have a 514 loader and feel like it should be lifting more. I often have to back out of a load that the loader cannot lift. Yes my rpms are maxed out, when trying, but what else could i check,..fluid level obvious.. thanks

A good rule of thumb is the loader is designed to lift about twice as much as your loader size my loader is a 723 there for I should be able to lift around 1400 lbs . But you have to remember the load capacity goes down the farther out you are from the main ram.....Dan

Assuming all the parts are moving freely, the only variable is the pressure. You can get a guage and verify the pressure is correct.

I have this on my list of things to do myself. It's mostly a productivity thing for me, I don't have any way to know if my loader and backhoe work is as productive as it could be without confirming the pressures.

A couple of times now I've purchased a pallet of concrete premix. I'm kicking myself for not stacking bags in my loader till the point of failure to lift just to see what the number is. Not that it really matters though.

When you are loading from a pile or hillside you are often trying to lift way more than the bucketful with the front of the bucket. I often have to back up a bit, but end up with a good full bucket. It was that way on the L185 with a 1770 loader, and is that way on the L3200 with the 524 loader.
I believe that about 35 years ago I set the pressure relief higher on the L185. Haven't needed to do anything with the L3200.

Invest in a pressure gauge as all the lifting force the loader can generate starts with hydraulic pressure. A good hydraulic shop can help you get the proper Tee to connect into the line at a cylinder. You only need to measure the pressure at one of the two lifting cylinders as they are in parallel. Same goes for the bucket cylinders but if the lifting cylinder pressure is OK then the bucket cylinder pressure will be OK. Northern tool sells cheap gauges. With this test you are checking the pump and relief valve and any relief valve which may be in the loader control valve.
