Re: Marvin Mystery Oil In D950?

What would have been causing the knocking?

That's my question as well. Knocking indicates actual loss of oil pressure. A false indication from a gauge or light should not cause knocking.

Yes. If it was simply a flickering light I would have said to check with a oil pressure test gauge, but with a knock there is no need IMO.

MaineTree, tell us what you knew about the tractor that you learned from the previous owner when you purchased it. How long did he own it, what troubles did he have, etc. He may have heard the noise and removed the oil light wire so he wasn't reminded of the real problem.

Just knowing the circumstances of the pre purchase might help.

Way to many threads to stay on top of, you're exactly right, the knocking appears to be completely separate unanswered issue.

I had a chance to run it moderately hard yesterday pushing back wood chip piles and other odds and ends and it did not knock. When I was moving full speed in second gear it did tick but even that would fade...and only in 2nd gear.

The louder knocking occurred after running a Farmi 290 winch and pulling small logs around (prior to Mystery oil add and 2nd oil change). Maybe it was just krud or related to the machine working much harder than just pushing wood chips around.?

The last owner had it for a week as he had purchased it to move round bales of hay @ 1500lbs/bale. A bit too heavy for that machine even brand new I believe. He said the previous owner was the original owner who had it since college and used it for landscaping mostly moving mulch and stone dust...

Any chance the knocking could just be a surging/ vibration that is felt from plugged fuel filters?

Something else to consider. Often times when an injector is not fueling properly the engine will have a knock that will convince you a bearing is failing.
