Use 15w-40 in a brand of your choice as long as it has a API CK-4 rating. I use synthetic oil but that's just my preference as I live in Michigan and the cold flow is a concern.

change em all............... THIS way you have a new starting point of hours and months.
Write it all down and move on.

AS for best type of oil - well, that can open a huge can of worms - but any oil rated for diesel works well, change it yearly or when the hours rank up.

I too prefer synthetics - but the bottom line is check on it and change it ..... often.

Anything new to me gets a full fluid change. From then on its annual or miles/ hours.
As to what oil- pick your favorite out of those that meet the specifications.

Change the alternator/water pump belt, save the old one for a spare. Change the air and fuel filters. Clean all battery connections confirm that the alternator is producing. How old is the battery? Confirm the fuses are sized correctly for the application. make all necessary adjustments i.e. brakes, clutch, feed back control, etc. By performing maintenance yourself, you may see additional items that need to be addressed, that's not to say something else might slip, break or come untied in the field but you'll know more about your purchase. When it comes to purchasing used equipment, I trust no one or any paper work they may have, if any maintenance items fail it's on me.
