I have a kabota M8950DT that I can't find where to put the hydraulic fluid for the steering. I broke a hose on the front that was for the steering and replaced it but I don't know where to put the fluid in that was lost. Help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I THINK this tractor has hydrostatic power steering (No mechanical connections from the steering wheel down to the front wheels) If so the steering system will probably be fed by the main hydraulic reservoir. At least that's the way my last tractor with hydrostatic steering was (International 444). Since you've changed the hose are you having problems with the steering? Have you checked the fluid level in the hydraulic system?

It's been a long time ago but I remember losing my hydrostatic steering on my old tractor after a big leak. I topped off the fluid and kept working the steering left and right as well as the 3ph lift up and down until I got the air out of the system.

Maybe somebody that's more familiar with your model can chime in also.

Welcome to OTT
My WAG is fluid level on power steering reservoir is plug(key 18). It appears power steering is separate from other hyd system on a M8950DT

Re: Kabota Hydraulic Steering

When the hydraulic hose busted there was a red fluid that sprayed out. For one I don't know what type of fluid to get nor do I know where to put it in at. I'll post some pics of the hose I replaced and try to trace where it leads to. But after I replaced the hose the steering came back but it feels like it catches when you turn the wheel. I know it lost a good bit of fluid.

I have a magnifying glass but I don't need it to clearly see the photo(thumbnail). Have you attempted to open thumbnail in a new window? If you choose to you can go to M8950DT parts catalog and increase size of print

Sorry i understand that the Dexron ATF will work for the steering. What i meant to ask was the actual hydraulic fluid for the rear. According to what i read it calls for a Kubota UDT fluid. I was wondering if there was a cheaper alternative in place of the expensive fluid that Kubota sells.
